Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

Both him and Lavar play up to it. They've both played the "support the black man" card.

Like when Jay told Drake/Kanye - "you rather work with the man than work with me"...***** you work with PLENTY of "The Men"
You have a point, although I feel like Ball didn't do it nearly as much, supporting people is great but you cant guilt trip or insult people for taking their business elsewhere. Especially when the market your trying to penetrate is being dominated by a select few already.

Honestly I think Jay just wasn't tryna **** with Dame no more

Lyor definitely played his part but idk, seem like deep down Dame don't wanna admit the business also destroyed his relationship with Jay, whether he sincerely believe they had a problem or not

All these years later and Jay still rockin with Lyor :ohwell:

i can see it from both sides.

that video of him with the carolina blue shorts yelling in def jam seemed like the reason he was unaware of what was going on was bc liles and cohen had organized something with hov without dames involvement or approval. but at the same time he was in there yelling pulling ****** ***** card. he wasnt gonna last long working in someone elses system he didnt run period.

Talkin bout who gonna reach a billi first
***** the African American median income is 39k
**** outta here

i b wondering why we as a people dont feel like this about stunt rap in general and the resulting culture of broke rich

Again i've went into the Tidal thing over & over... it's not that dudes ain't wanna support (that's your own decision) it's the fact that dudes go out there way to **** on it & discredit it. Even after SEVERAL artist have came out & said they pay much higher rates than their competitors, it's owned by artist, many of them being black & yet somehow it's THIS streaming service people want to fail.

Same thing happened with Lavar, Same thing Happens with Revolt... & we could keep listing numerous things over & over again. Black people hold newly founded black owned businesses to higher standards then well established companies owned by white men, that they love to give their money.

im a support a black person first before ANYONE else
BUT
if its not on the level where i feel fit
im gonna go take my money where i feel it is
again
black business gonna get my money first
but im not just handing my money over
to something that aint up to my standard
just cause ur black
now if u on the same standard
as someone else u getting that bread
but if u not up to par with what I want

You just against it because who owns it.

It's not clothes. Or food .It's a music playing app  Literally there is nothing wrong with Tidal. It has music. All you need to do is play it. If you dont wanna support it, fine, nobody cares. Just stop sugarcoating it.

If ****** that own a PS4 goes into the Microsoft thread and slanders the XBOX....will another "race" internalize that and say "how are you (insert race) and want the Xbox to fail".

News flash...Tidal is 1/3 of a billion dollar market. He isn't "failing". It's a billion dollar circle...and three services are jockeying for position and he owns one of them. If you make it to the "circle" in an industry to where you're one of the few that run ****....you aren't losing.

But because ****** worship this guy and because we are where we are in the world right now...he's convinced them that there's something at play that isn't. This is CAPITALIST America...it's every man for himself.

Thing is, the black owned business NEEDS funding to get up to the standard thats been in place (old money vs new money)

Nowhere did i say he was losing... people want it to be a fail. IDK how many "tidal got another 6 months left" type articles i've seen since it began. Any kind of issue it has is heavily reported. People STILL clam that Tidal is more expensive than the other streaming sites despite that being completely false.

Lyor sat on the breakfast club & went into detail about how streaming is gonna continue to be more & more powerful.... Named literally every other service except for Tidal. It don't need to be Jay at the head, for me to calculate that an industry headed by old white men who make their living off the backs of underpaying artist..... are gonna be okay & supportive of a company headed by younger black artist. I've seen this at play in every other industry, so it ain't some kind of falsehood that Jay made up... it's the norm

Nah forget that jay a snake **** for a minute
I’m keeping it a buck right now
I could care less about who owns what
Also I have never said there’s anything wrong with tidal
I was speaking generally when I quoted u
And said what u said

Companies keep PR firms on retainer for a reason. Samsung literally shells out millions for negative Apple ads/articles. Of course Tidal is going to have bad press...look who he's competing with. You think if Jay had it in the budget to **** with Apple and Spotify that he wouldn't?

I'm sorry...but Tidal and Jay Z is not the hill that I'm personally about to die on in regards to black business ownership. He IS a part of the machine...I don't give a **** what color he is.

Not true
I have no problem paying more
For excellent service
Don’t put out a ****** product
Or service
Expecting me to pay excellent service money

Jay rocked with Harvey Weinstein as well until it was no longer cool to do so.

Not knocking the god. I get it. I say that simply to point out that Hov moves in the circles of money. He seems to maintain those relationships so long as they’re economically feasible. The vitality of those relationships go out the window when it’s not profitable to maintain em anymore (ie Dame, Ye, Beans, Pervy Weinstein, etc).

[/Nawghty]

Edit: My ***** already started before I even got a chance to submit that post  *facepalm

Your examples suck.

Jay isn't a woman. All of Hollywood was ******* with Harvey Weinstein.

And Dame and Jay were co-owners of a company and Dame made someone else the VP of a company without even discussing it with him. That's what we know about. Imagine what we don't know.

And Kanye is nuts

and Beans was going back and forth to jail. Hell he's 45 now and still doing dumb ****.

Why don't you acknowledge all the day one dudes Jay has around him. From Bleek to TyTy to Emory to Bee High. Muchless his nephews and people like Lenny S and Jay Brown.

Jay and Lyor are cool. Jay was just at his wedding last year lol he said in decoded thats his "mentor", Tidal is just a smaller tier company

Lyor old boss at Warner own Deezer and he didn't mention them either

Edit: When Tidal first started Lyor actually had an "exclusive playlist" on there to promo artists from 300

You’re catapulting a bit. Me saying that Hov moves in circles of money doesn’t mean that he only moves in money circles. Of course there are instances of people around him who have remained solid. But it’s silly to dismiss the fact that there are also ones who have fallen from his good graces when times got tough for them.

Relax Joe. Save that **** for the podcast.

While Jay & Lyor are "cool" that doesn't equate to Lyor & the rest of his country club buddies wanting to help Jay or any other black dude for that matter ascend. Especially Tidal which is pushing for more artist ownership & bigger percentages

Jay prolly at the same country club bruh, on top of that Napster pays out more than Tidal and nobody mentions them either

Tidal and Napster both have around the same marketshare as well (less than 2-3%) these are niche streaming companies

Spotify and Apple got like 80% of the market together, Amazon is niche is well but its Amazon at the end of the day
