He was the first artist I wasn’t born into, like when I was growing up(48 years old now) most of my favorite soul/ R&B artists stemmed from me listening to what my parents listened to and appreciating it, but D’Angelo was on the first artists my parents or my brother or sister didn’t have to put me on to, like from the rip, the Brwon Sugar song/video was all it took, I was in the 11th or 12th grade and I was like “this here is my artist and my type of **** right here” and then Voodoo came especially Left & Right, then Send it On, Chicken Grease, One Mo’ Gin, the whole album slapped, the Black Messiah, dude was only three real albums in, so much talent and time left on the table, hate it. Dude overcame a lot of demons and this is how it ends, **** sux.
