Quick question about Law Enforcement my NT brethren

Here is the situation.  Today at work I busted a shoplifter chick.  As I was apprehending her in front of the store some dude got in my face and told me I couldn't mess with her and he knows the law and all this.  He ended up physically pushing me and trying to start crap with me.  by this time there was a huge crowd of people basically telling me to let the girl go.  I ended up just saying eff it and let her get away without holding her until the police got there like usual.  Anyways my question is, since that guy got physical, could I have laid him out?  Or when the cops showed up later could I have had them press charges against him for being a punk.

unless your a loss prevention specialist (the scope of their role varies company to company) it's almost every companies policy to not allow employees to restrain or touch shoplifters. if you or the other person gets hurt the company would be liable in a lawsuit. if its in their policy stating you are not allowed to touch and you get your %$$ beat, you wouldnt be able to sue and you'd probably get fired.

You deserve to be fired. Store can't trust you as a guard because you'd let suspects go away.

There is no such thing as a "3 hit" rule. Once said person puts their hands on you, that is the beginning of a fight and you have the right to protect yourself. That is the law.
