a few steps to take before you choose
1-people are gonna tell you get a ps3 b/c it has blu-ray..is your tv a 1080p hdtv?..if the answer to this is no, ignore what they tell you bout blu-ray andkeep it movin unless ur gettin a 1080p hdtv in the near future
2-ask your friends who has what system..if the majority have xbox, hit up xbox live and play with em..if ps3 then go to playstation online..honestly, ps onlineis wack so if you wanna play online stick with xbox..you wanna just play alone or with friends in ur crib then go for ps3
3-check out the games that will be exclusive to each system in the future..currently there arent many but soon alot of good games will be available for only 1system n not the other so check these games out n decide if you'd even play them
4-graphics wise, if your tv is hdtv the ps3 will be slightly better..if you have a regular tv or a lower end high deff tv then go with the 360..its cheaper forone...only thing is if you game alot you may come a cross the Red Light problem where ur xbox gets overheated n craps out..if u dont game alot and have themoney..then once again..ps3
in the end..its ur decision..choose wisely

hardware wise i think they're pretty much around the same.
It's dependant on your gaming type also. If you're willing to pay for downloadable content and love that stuff then go ahead and grab the xbox 360. Ifyou're not willing to pay for DLC nor an XBL account grab the ps3. If you also have blu-ray discs then again grab the ps3.
Games wise the exclusives are kinda like FF series for the PS3 and... that's pretty much all I can recall right now. Xbox 360 has Ninja Gaiden and halo.

1. Blu-ray can look nice on a 720p as well. You'll notice the difference and the amount of detail on a BD compared to a DVD.
2. Buy the system that has the games you want.

4. They both look great in HD. None of the new 360s have been reported to have the red rings, so if you buy one now you are safe. For the PS3, it is a safepurchase as well.

I'm a fan of Gran Turismo and Metal Gear Solid, both of which are PS3 exclusives... so my choice would be the PS3... but if you prefer, say, Gears of War,then go with the 360... go with the games you want...
the PS3 is one of the best Blu-Ray players around... for its speed and price... though MicroSoft will probably release a BD drive for the 360 down the road aswell...

ps3...had a 360 and the only advantage was halo...plus the mega title games will be dropping in the near future for ps3...MGS4, tekken, Grand turismo,ets...you wont be disappointed

A year ago I would have recommended a XBOX 360, but right now if you had to pick between systems you cannotbeat the PS3. In the very near future it will not even be a question as the PS3 is starting to mature into the system that it was promised to be. Get the DualShock 3 controller...makes a big difference if you ask me.
I love my 360 and it is an amazing system in its own right and it is a true next-gen system, but I see it losing ground the next few years and the PS3 is morefuture-proof. Much is made about Blu-Ray as a movie format, but not much is made about the storage capacity of Blu-Ray (40+ GB dual-layer), and that extraspace will be paramount for the next gen games of the next few years.
