Honestly I love DBZ but that's just nostalgia as a child. It isn't as good as other manga or anime. Samurai Champloo, Outlaw Star, Yu Yu Hakusho, Gundam, Death Note, Berserk, etc. all have much better quality than the same routine DBZ had.

Dragonball is the foundation for a lot of anime/manga's.
Just like someone said about the 80's rap, the **** had to start somewhere.
DBZ has more action that all those anime's you named. Even though a lot of them are personal favorites, none of them are ******g with DBZ. Nostalgia or not, DBZ had action that had you wanting to watch it every episode. It honestly wasn't even about the story. The **** stopped being about the Dragonballs after the first real saga.

DBZ is the foundation for stuff like One Piece not the other stuff I mentioned.
I don't care that much about mindless action. You pay attention to the anime and you'll realize they recycled a lot of scenes from old eps for new fights. Plus it's a stretch to say it had A LOT of action like other shows didn't at the time when dudes spend entire eps powering up or flying to a battle or running on a dragon to be brought back to life.
The fact that you're saying it wasn't even about the story is why I'm saying there's better anime and manga. DBZ is only good for nostalgia and when you're a kid.

We'll just have to agree to disagree then. Because I can sit and watch DB right now and enjoy it more tan YuYu, Death Note, and Berserk. Nostalgia aside. Its just better to me.
If we base it on story, Gundam technically is the GOAT anime. (which in my opinion it is, but it wouldn't even be argued)
DBZ just isn't about the storyline. There's hardly any character development outside of Goku and Vegeta. There's no plot twists that haven't been fixed by the dragon balls, etc.
Its really just about the action. Thats what its about. Thats like saying The Notebook is a better movie than Ironman because it has a well written out story... But is it really better than Ironman? Really? Do you sit and enjoy watching the Notebook more than seeing Tony Stark blow **** up? In this case, I don't.. But thats not to say those other anime's aren't great. Because I do love them, for the story, character development, suspense, drama, etc.
DBZ isn't the best anime ever, but its damn sure better than Yu Yu Hakusho...
