I honestly don't watch much UK television. I usually mess with Sherlock and Luther, but I hear nothing but great things about their shows, so I might just have to pay attention.

Luther was good but that alone wouldn't tip the scales in favor of British shows. Especially when there have been incredible American tv shows this last decade.

While I really haven't seen anything like Luther on American tv shows I don't think that's enough to say UK is out right better.
They do have more great shows out there to check out though. It really comes down to taste.
I will say though their crop of actors seem to be superior to America's.

Didn't say that was the only show I watched. It's the show that I'm currently enjoying. Should've elaborated I guess, since people can't comprehend that.

Should've so now explain
IMO they favor quality over quantity. Their shows usually have fewer episodes, while American shows tend to try to last forever so they can go into syndication and air as re-runs and they just eventually stretch things out beyond belief to the point where the quality is diminished. Obviously there are exceptions, we have our breaking bads, the wires and all that but yeah.
