Oh, wait, you're serious?

Too many people on this forum really need to expand their musical and cultural horizons.

I didn't say they were the same, just that it wouldn't be a huge stretch to compare.  It's too early to totally compare the two but NWA's legacy, even beyond record sales, is a lot bigger than people think.  Without NWA, Dre doesn't branch off and create Death Row.  No Snoop Dogg.  Eminem never blows, Kendrick Lamar doesn't get Dr Dre's blessing.  Ice Cube doesn't strike out a solo career.  That's not even counting their cultural implications - what other group got themselves on an FBI watchlist and turned a down and out NFL franchise (Raiders) into a fashion symbol?

Again, not the same but it's not a huge stretch to compare the two.
NWA's influences are pretty much exclusive to rap and the culture that has streamed from it. the beatles literally changed the music industry as a whole, one of the most popular rappers of all time, jay z named his black album after a beatles album. they sell more records now than they did when they were together, who the hell still buys nwa albums? no one here is denying what NWA has done for rap but comparing them to the beatles is like comparing an ice cube to an ice berg, yes the difference is THAT big
Black Album was a Metallica album. White Album was Beatles.
yes, and both black album's names were inspired by the beatles white album

If we're gonna take NWA's individual albums and add them up, shouldn't we do the same for The Beatles?

dont need to, if you take the top 50 best selling hip hop albums ever and add them together you wouldnt get a quarter of the total beatles album sales

The Black Album
The Beatles - Abbey Road

Despite being indebted in name to The White Album, Jay-Z’s Black Album  takes a lot of its grand ambition from Abbey Road, the last album The Beatles went into the studio together to record.

you have to be pretty clueless to think that artists naming something the black album has nothing to do with on of the most popular albums of all time

Abbey Road isn't the album nicknamed the White Album :lol You have to be pretty clueless to make that argument without knowing that. Their self titled 2 disc album is the white album, and neither Jay Z or Metallica took influence from it.
What the White Album influenced, and some of its tributes
• The album’s cover, though stark and minimalistic, has been highly influential. Goth band The Damned released The Black Album in 1980, and is considered the first album to draw influence from the cover, as well as the first band to use the term “Black Album”.
 • The 1984 Rob Reiner “rockumentary”  This Is Spinal Tap also pays homage with their own “Black Album”, which is juxtaposed to the original by A&R staff Bobbi Fleckman, who notes in a debate about appropriate packaging material: “What about the White album? There was nothing on that Goddamned cover.” The band are generally less enthusiastic, referring to it variously as “a black mirror”, “none more black” and “death”.
 • The self-titled debut album of They Might Be Giants is commonly referred to as “The Pink Album” due to the amount of the color pink on the cover.
 • Comedian Dennis Miller released a stand-up comedy recording in October 1988 titled “The Off-White Album” which mimicked the design of The Beatles.
 • In the 1990s, both Prince and Metallica released self-titled albums with their names printed against mostly plain black covers, and are both informally referred to as “The Black Album”.
 • In 2003, rapper Jay-Z released an album officially called The Black Album. DJ  Danger Mouse produced the mashup The Grey Album by combining vocals from Jay-Z’s Black Album with samples from The Beatles.
it would be easier for you to just admit that you're wrong and move on

Are you getting your information from ******g Wikipedia? :rollin NONE of those "points" have Jay-Z or Metallica actually attributing the Beatles for those albums.

EDIT- Just looked up your points, and they ARE from Wikipedia :lol

Metallica's album was self-titled and given the nickname by fans, having nothing to do with the white album. Jay-Z never said anything about the Beatle's White album having anything to do with the Black Album. Danger Mouses' Gray Album was a side project Jay had NOTHING to do with. The Prince Black Album that was mentioned had nothing to do with it either :D

the metallica album was an album titled "metallica" which had a black cover so the fans called it the black album. the beatles album was an album titled "the beatles" with a white cover so the fans called it the white album

you have to have a rock for brains to not see how the titles are related

jay z who has always sampled rock classics and has said that the beatles have been an inspiration comes out with "the black album" and it has nothing to do with the beatles?

i might as well be talking to my dog, he would probably understand such a simple connection

Yes, the fans nicknamed both albums. You said both artists named their albums after the beatle's album. Metallica had NOTHING to do with their album being nicknamed the black album so no, they didn't name their album after the beatles', just because it was self titled and the cover was primarily one color :lol Your point on Jay-Z nicknaming his album after it is 100% speculation just because he's said he's been influenced by the beatles musically. It's pretty ******g easy to see that there is 0 evidence whatsoever saying that both album titles were directly influenced by the white album, it's just you trying to tie loose things to it, much like the Wikipedia article you referenced. At least my dog could tell that Jay-Z isn't on a song before arguing someone had a better verse than him on it. I'm the one with rocks for brains though :rollin

So you're taking the Beatles as just the group alone, and comparing it to NWA, their influences, their individual sales records, essentially taking the six degrees of separation route by inlcuding Kendrick, and they STILL arent as popular as the Beatles!

Imagine if I was to then on top of just the Beatles add all of their influences, their individual record sales, and artist that had careers because of the Beatles. You think Nysnc and Backstreet Boys would have been around without the Beatles? Would Justin have a solo career like he has had. The Beatles were and in many cases STILL are a cultural phenomenon that are touched by NONE. No one even comes close, save for MJ.

The Beatles influence spans genres and DECADES. You're argument is laughable man. The two can't compare, and this is coming from a Puerto Rican dude who lives in the South Bronx. I grew up on 90's hip hop. I love hip-hop and what it represents and I fully understand the implications of NWA's cultural impact, but come on man....they don't belong in the same conversation.

NWA as influential/popular as THE BEATLES?! LOL. Give me a break. That's almost as bad as what Antidope said earlier.

this post is whats dumb

isnt it HIS opinion tho?

I agree with him personally

it doesnt mean that the billions of people who listen to whatever are wrong and I'm right it means i dont like the ****

y'all dudes don't know how to use words correctly or something?

"no other genre of music is good" is not the same as "i don't like any other genre of music"

YOU'RE dumb if you think people would take the both statements the same way.

if he said the latter not only would i not have responded, i don't think anyone else would think twice about it.
It is still an opinion though, no one is parading it around as fact. Don't get hung up on the word choice. I don't like other genres of music because I don't think they are good. You knew exactly what I was getting at, no need to argue semantics.
