At the price point you are looking at for a used WRX you are better off finding a new base model. You are only looking at a few k difference, plus you don't know how hard someone before you drove that car. I have seen new base models here go for around 26k.
I'd say like $23-24k with around 25k on the odometer

That's both good to know. I'm hoping I can get at least $7.5K for my trade-in and I wasn't looking at anything over an extra $200ish a month. Maybe I'll even look into leasing one. I don't need to go all out on an STi since my Z is already plenty of fun, plus I hear the base has more than enough power to keep me happy during the colder winter around here.

And I'm sure I'll get flamed for this but anybody put an STi wing on their WRX? I don't really care about functionality or whatever people on the net say, but with the boxy look of these cars, I just love the aesthetics the wing adds. I've had one on my last 3 cars and I kind of can't see myself without one anymore :lol

Plenty of people put the STI wing on the regular WRX. I would get a 5 door though, but I guess it depends on where you live and what you are using the car for. I am going to get a regular Impreza wagon soon, would like a wrx but want to get something that I don't have to put premium in.

Im glad da LS9 is also available as a crate engine

To swap into anything...

due to my friends experience with crate engines, I've decided to never buy a crate engine, would much rather build it myself to my specifications.

My friend purchased a Zz4 crate engine from some shop. He was promised something like 550-600 horses etc. Horrible engine. Did nothiny it was supposed to do, cam was set up completely wrong.

probably didn't have da right programing, ECM, controller, etc.

Theres nothing wrong with cruising in 3rd or 4th gear for 40mph cruising right? Sometimes it will drop to 30ish and ill still be in 4th cause I cant downshift that well. Also once you get into 2nd/3rd/4th whatever its a matter of just gasing and cruising no? Car feels a bit choppy but im thinking its just how im driving. Ill be in 3rd, cruise while gasing maybe slightly break (I should probably downshift by now) and then resume gasing with no clutch involved?

Cruise in whatever gear you want

I know si's are very rev happy.

Have you been down shifting through every gear to slow down?

I usually just throw it in neutral and let it coast

Plenty of people put the wing, decals, anything and everything to make it look like a STI and honestly with a few mods you can be faster then a stock one.

I just ordered some parts yesterday for mine. SWOOOOOSH!

Pretty sure the ZZ4 is a carb engine... When I was thinking about building my old 88 Camaro before I bought my SS I was looking into it....

Crate motors can be really hit or miss... My friend copped a h23 vtec straight from Japan that turned out to be a total dud.

Ish was riddled with problems after the install and he was really pissed he didnt just build a different motor himself :x

Cruise meaning gas, let off the gas and gas again if necessary? No clutch involved?

Also what does "blipping" the gas mean?

Letting go of the gas in a manual car will cause the car to slow down. In my experience, the rate in which it slows down by not pressing the gas is a lot more than in any automatic car (that I've driven). That might be what you're experiencing. If you want to lessen the effect, take the car out of gear and cruise in neutral.

Yes... you need to learn how to downshift. If you're coming to a stop then fine, just throw it in neutral, and coast to the light or whatever, but in cases like yours where you're driving in 4th and the car's running out of "power" and starts jerking, you gotta drop it down.

Usually people would rev-match but I think you have a lot of driving to do still before you try that. Just downshift the same way you shift all the time, but let off the clutch a bit slower so the car doesn't jerk. When downshifting you don't need to worry about timing the gas. Just clutch, downshift, and easy the car into a lower gear.

It's not the speed and gear that's important when cruising, it's what the rpms are. Every car has its own sweet spot, I usually stay around 1700-2000, and then downshift when you want to really speed up. You can tell when you need to downshift because you'll try to accelerate but the car won't quickly. If the rpms are really low while cruising the car will start to shake.

So I need to get some tires for my ride. I have to replace the 2 front ones but the rear ones have plenty of tread on them. The tire I have on isn't made anymore since I got them 2 years go so does anyone know of a spot that buys used tires or if I can go someplace and get something for them out here in the bay? I'm dumping so much $$ into my car this weekend just on repairs and I'm tryna go to Monterey next weekend to. *sigh

Call a few tire shops to get quotes. I just replaced my front 2 tires for $160 total. Costco quoted me @ $270 but they warranty the tires for life, which is awesome if it goes flat and needs fixing. Are they passenger or low pro tires?

Check craigslist, always good deals on barely used tires on there

I checked costco also and it's about 213 for 2 tires for 425 for all 4. Might just replace all 4 of them and not deal with the hassle when I have to rotate them. They're passenger P195/70/R14's. Was going to get the Michelin ones since they have done me well so far. It was either costco or getting them off tirerack and getting my dude to install them which is what I'm leaning towards but I'm wondering if he could get them for a better price since he owns a shop?

I thought about that but I'm looking for a warranty to come with them also. Might just get rid of my old ones on craigs.

Well they're the Michellin Defender's so they're $100 a pop.

It was either those or the Yokohama's which are half the price for 4 but the tread rating is 620

I called up some local shops and they were quoting me $580+ for the michellins for installation and allignment. :x
