Today, news has come out that fashion designer Rick Owens recently worked with adidas on a line of men’s and women’s running shoes. Owens being a sports addict, but not a big cardio fan, decided it was time to take things a little more seriously.
“Earlier this year, Owens got in touch with Adidas, which had previously approached him about a collaboration. He ended up designing a group of running shoes for the German athleticwear giant based on a single silhouette in a range of materials and colors, with six styles for men and four for women. Of course, in the world of Rick Owens, those colors were limited to black, white, gray, pearl and bone — with a shot of yellow on some of the women’s styles. Materials include various combinations of leather, suede, nylon and canvas.
The Adidas by Rick Owens designs, which are so far planned for a single season, will retail for $400 to $500. They hit retail in December and will be sold at Rick Owens stores and premium specialty fashion retailers.”
The designs of the collection will be unveiled after Rick Owens’ Paris fashion show on June 27, 2013. This marks, next to the collaboration with Raf Simons, another high-fashion team-up by the German brand."

Umm, have you seen Rick Owens runway show? Adidas might be the last brand you think off after seeing it.
In all seriousness, this is off the left field and really not many expected it. It seems that Rick does genuinely just want a pair of running shoes he could wear but do not want to wear Nikes or some ugly Saucony or Brooks but he doesn't have the resources to produce a good pair of running shoes that won't f'up his knees. I'll be honest, if the shoes looks I'd cop a pair or two but this is completely unexpected and just a big surprise. I don't think anyone is hating, most are just caught off guard.

Not really, Y3 sneakers are still colorful and somewhat futuristic while Rick Owens are mainly just black and white and the design/silhouette have been the same from the beginning, he isn't really innovating the sneaker world. Rick Owens sneakers are also usually big and chunky and somewhat minimalist, there are some crazy designs out there too but nothing on the level of Y3 and it is still mainly black and white:
