I am trying to buy some poker chips for my home to play and there seems to be so much involved. Different weights, different chips, etc. Can anyone recommend aweight and some chips? Any good sites to browse? Also I would like to know when playing at home how much chips do you guys start the game off with? I amthinking of buying 1000 chips but I dont know if thats a lot or not.. Thanks..

if your looking for durability just go with the official WPT or WSOP chips

11.5 Gram official WPT Clay filled chips

it doesnt really matter...you just dont want the cheap plastic chips cause they dont last

and as far as stacks go you need alot more info - what kind of game do you want to play? deepstack? quick? rebuys? leveled? theres alot of different blindstructures/starting stacks ...just google them and pick the best fit to the game you want to be playing

Thanks tre, do you know where I can find those specific chips?

Also I'm thinking of starting everyone off with 150 chips no rebuys.. Are you taking about these kind? PokerChips

Chiptalk.net
Homepokertourney.com

Both great websites when it comes to this kind of stuff. 11.5 isn't an official weight at all. 9.5 or 10g is what is the norm at casinos. I have a 500pcset of ceramic Nevada Jacks and a 500pc set of Dunes Commemorative Chips and they're both totally different. Both sets work well for tournaments with 8-9people 10k starting stacks. I'm a poker chip NERD son.

Do yourself a favor and get some KEM or COPAG cards as well. I prefer Copag Regular Index myself. Kem bridge size are amazing too though.

you can find some really nice sets of chips on ebay for cheap, i've bought 2 sets of clay chips and they work great

^^basically /thread

but i wasnt saying that was the "official weight" it was the cited weight for the official wpt chips i use - like i said it doesnt reallymatter...i'll play with these teddy grahams i got in front of me right now

thats the set i was talking about - ive had that for a while and except for a few stickers coming off they have lasted thru alot

Na tre I wasn't meaning you said that was official weight, it's just that that is the most common misconception when it comes to buying poker chips.

I don't mind cheap dice chips at all, but I PREFER clay/composite.

Ebw so no more then 11.5 you're saying? And can I have a link to the sets you have if possible..

I don't own 11.5g anymore at all. I'd actually rather have 14g over 11.5 just because I dislike dice chips. Like I said, 9.5 or 10 iswhere the party's at.

Heres the Nevada Jacks: http://www.pokergamingpro...ips-w-denominations.html

Heres the Dunes: http://www.apachepokerchips.com/dunespokerchips.html

Between the two sets I prefer the Dunes. Most of my friends feel the same way too. The Dunes are amazzzzzing. Nevada Jacks are a little more slippery. If youcan afford them, I def recommend.

theres a chip place in vegas, where i got mine. its what they use in the casinos, they have the dice chips too. but if you buy a lot they'll give u abreak.

its off strip in a warehouse. but they've been around for ever.

gambler's general store.

check it out. that and they have poker tables and other goods. pro shufflers etc.
