I have a similar problem. I have a serial # but I don't know how to install the program. I don't have the CD. Any help?

That's in one of the early pages. Basically you double click on the layer in the little window that shows all the layers and it will open a box asking you what you want to call it (normally layer 0 instead of background) and then once you have done that it is unlocked.
I prefer to leave it locked in case I mess something up though - it's always good to have the original image.

You can edit your selection in a few ways - you can't physically drag the lines somewhere else but if you go to 'select' you can do a few things - modify/transform/grow/feather...
Play around with those and you might find the effect you want - they are useful for removing edges around an image.
