What really sucks is Season 4 definitely ain’t coming out for over a year. Netflix for whatever reason still hasn’t even officially renewed it for another season yet even though the showrunner said they plan on doing 5 seasons. It’ll definitely be renewed but this corona **** is gonna realllly delay filming for everything right now.
Still not sure how Marty went from talking to Maya one second to getting kidnapped in public 30 secs later. Ben *** *** was 500 feet away (albeit elevated) and saw that **** but she and all her FBI goons didn't?
I definitely thought she was compromised when I saw that.

At the venue everybody had their backs turned to that as they were watching REO Speedwagon whereas Ben was facing the other way looking at Marty the entire time.
She went against her M.O. of cracking the fraud cases that hold intrinsic value to her.
The Superior Agent she had a meeting with gave off a feeling that this behavior of ignoring said cases is not like her.
We're shown TWO scenes of Maya speaking to Marty right before he flies to Mexico in the same season? C'mon.
The first time, she was testing how committed he was, but it was Navarro's call as to how he would be handled. So he asked him "what do you want.....(because you're too valuable to kill right now)"?
Maya flagged one of the accounts to save Marty? No, she flagged it on Navarro's command so he could see for himself the extent of his skills. And he proved he got skills, of the rare variety.
The second time she was trying to confirm if the confession written up was really of Marty's accord or if Helen was stepping beyond her boundaries. Navarro doesn't like being lied to.
These cartels aren't like NT where we all see each others screen names and have inside jokes about members stepping on their beds with their sneakers on, or over zealous claims about selling drones.
Most members of these organizations don't know each other. I don't think Helen knew Maya was part of the Cartel.

The reason she didn't move on those cases is cuz she saw them for what they were, a manipulation by Marty to compromise her. I thought that was obvious.
What's also against her MO is how she got the cases. She's not gonna let Marty play her like that.
Um yeah, I don't think that's a sign of anything. First time she was laying in to Marty. The second time she was completely out of the loop. If she's working for Navarro how does she not know what Helen is up to? Or why doesn't she just contact him? She had no idea Marty was on his way to Mexico.
The idea that Maya flagged the account on Navarro's command is ridiculous To see Marty's skills? What? So he didn't know about his skills the multiple years Marty has been laundering for him to the point the FBI knew he was laundering for him but could never catch him for it? Navarro didn't even understand what Marty did to unfreeze the account.
Nevermind the fact, that if he wanted to see Marty's skills he would not have taken the risk of torturing him for days. I mean seriously what if he broke Marty and he couldn't fix the problem? Just tell Maya to inflate the account? This twist doesn't make much sense given whats happened.
Helen didnt lie to Navarro. She told him she'd like to expand her role cuz they were not reliable given what had gone down up to that point and Marty had stopped laundering money. He agreed and told her to do what she needed to do. So she began to get her name on the casino license and then set up a way where the Byrd family would be put in witsec. There was no deception.
Helen not knowing about Maya in your scenario is irrelevant. The problem is Maya doesn't know what Helen is doing after she got Navarro's okay. If Maya is already turned by Navarro she would've contacted Navarro about this deal and he would've told her Helen had his approval because he gave it.
Another thing, the reason got killed in the end is cuz she's been slipping and Navarro saw it. Another NTer already broke it down but Helen let her husband live, refused to put the hit out on him, wasn't willing to sacrifice whereas Wendy proved her loyalty. Helen had split focus and it got her killed in the end.
No, Helen did lie in a sense by not getting the go ahead to use that confession trick.
Some of your arguments fly right in the face of what a writer is supposed to do in the genre, write twist while leaving breadcrumbs to give the viewer that "how did I miss that" feeling upon the second watch. If it played out the way you described where every action has a corresponding scene to explain it, it kills the suspense. You're watching basic arithmetic in story form at that point. They wouldn't show Maya calling Navarro because it wouldn't be a surprise for the viewer.
I do agree with the notion that the first episode and the second to last are parallel in terms of what each party is willing to sacrifice. That doesn't mean Helen didn't step outside of her boundaries with that confession plan.
Unlike Maya, whom we, the viewers aren't supposed to know about yet, Helen has had scenes where it's just her speaking with Navarro over the phone. THAT'S where you ask "why didn't we see them talk about this", not the character we aren't supposed to "know" about yet.
There was no confession trick. The deal Helen set up was an alternative to just killing the entire Byrd family.

The problem here is you're talking from a standpoint that there is a twist.
I'm saying there isn't.

You're misunderstanding what I said. I'm not saying they would've showed Maya call Navarro or that they should've shown that. It wouldnt even make sense at that point in the season. I'm saying she would've called and it wouldn't have been shown.
What I'm specifically saying is if Maya was in Navarro's pocket she would've never called Marty in the first place and after he told her he was back on his way to Mexico she wouldn't have tried to get him not to go.

I agree with everything you've type but there was something to that confession. She wanted marty's confession written on official fbi letterhead. She wanted to take that to Navarro to show he's working with the FBI and frame him.
That would be crazy but it would make sense as to why the ending was what it was. She could have reported back to Navarro that he never gave any of them up and stayed loyal. While Helen went behind all of their backs and basically said Marty was gonna confess some information for a plea deal. It would also make sense why immediately after he told Maya he’d give her some info that those cartel dudes popped up and kidnapped him.

My whole thing is if that's the case it doesn't reflect well on her. How does Marty set up that deal with the FBI and it gets that far without her knowing?
How does she explain that to Navarro? Hell how does she sell Marty pulled this traitorous move after everything he just went through with Navarro and how he left things in order for Navarro to set him free?
Whether she wanted the Byrd's dead or not I don't feel that confession deal is what she uses to seal it. Not without looking funny in the light. I don't deny she was pulling sneaky moves but she was still operating under Navarro's okay for her to expand her role.
Just finished Season 3. All I can say is wow. This show is Breaking Bad-level greatness. This show does an amazing job of building and maintaining tension.
- Story with Ben was heartbreaking, especially if you know anyone with mental illness. They can go from loving and kind to assaulting people in moments. He didn't really leave Wendy with much of a choice though.
- Regarding Navarro killing Helen. I think we'll find out early next season that Helen's daughter told her dad about Helen being a cartel lawyer, forcing Navarro to kill her. Helen even said in episode 9 that her daughter wasn't built like the Byrd kids. Otherwise, Helen had them dead to rights with the FBI confession letter (don't be surprised if Navarro finds the confessions next season)
