Star Wars: The Despecialized Edition, also known as Harmy's Despecialized Edition, is a fan-created film preservation of the original Star Wars trilogy films: Star Wars (1977), The Empire Strikes Back (1980), and Return of the Jedi (1983). It is a high-quality replica of the out-of-print theatrical versions, created by a team of Star Wars fans with the intention of preserving the films, culturally and historically. The project was led by Petr Harmáček, then an English teacher, from Plzeň, Czech Republic, under the online alias Harmy.”

First off, thank you so much for posting this. This is so awesome

Anyone else have a soft spot for unaltered, theatrical versions of films?

My preferred version of watching films on Blu-Ray, for example is always the version that was shown in the theater. Nothing added in, nothing taken away.

This is only my opinion, of course, but the version shown in the theater is the most authentic version, in my eyes

Don’t get me wrong, I understand the appeal for “Director’s Cuts,” etc. They’re very cool, but if I had the option: Theatrical version all the way

“We’re millionaires, boys! I’ll share it with all of you! Why, in a few months, it’ll be up in lights on Broadway: Kong, The Eighth Wonder of the World!”

It’s case by case for me. Some directors cuts are faarrrrrr superior to the theatrical release. So much so, that you might be watching an entirely different film. Like “Legend” with Tom Cruise. The Ridley Scott directors cut version is a completely different film in tone and has a complete separate soundtrack. Theatrical version was some goofy wannabe Disney like film, while the directors cut is dark, gritty, and serious.

The theatrical cut of The Abyss is a travesty. They left out the most important payoff in the film. LOTR trilogy I only like fellowship and not the other 2.

I guess what I’m saying is, it all depends for me. I tend to like director cuts and extended versions in sci fi films maybe
