Swiss popped a bean before that interview

Kanye's greatest talent will forever be gassing himself up so much that others start to believe it. I liked when he did his own thing and didn't give a **** who thought it was hot or not. Now he does his thing and has to preach it to the world how ahead of it's time it is and others jump on the wave (like Swiss) not necessarily because they like it or not but because it's different and they don't wanna be left behind. This applies to kanye's fashion sense, and his recent music especially.

kanyes talent will forever be sayin hes gonna do somethin then actually become really successful at it :hat

ye can back up what he says :hat

Pastelle though.

For a dude who's harped on "fashion" as long as he has, he's kind of come up empty.

Could change tomorrow, but so far, it hasn't happened. Even his APC capsules have been largely viewed as underwhelming.

The Clipse have QUIETLY had more success with their clothing line :lol

Pastelle didn't happen because of the Taylor swift thing

Also the clipse line and what kanye wants to do are 2 completely different markets

As far as clothing goes over the past 4-5 years LITERALLY what he decides to rock with is what moves men fashion btwn the ages of 16-35.... Let him start rocking a combo strongly and watch as EVERY aspect of fashion slowly starts to adapt to him.

From the joggers, to the givenchy Era, to the Balmain/ biker jeans, Longer hemmed T-shirts etc etc .... when he does something 6-12 months later ALL of the fashion Industry takes notice and switches there style...

From the quick spots H&M/ Zara to high end Ralph/ Chanel/ YSL they all have adopted styles and worked on trends that our heavily based on what he has started as a trend. Hell even nike has made EVERY NIke ID available in Yeezy colorways.

so yes his own line hasn't taken off yet (If we're not gonna count the Yeezy or the Louis or the APC collabs being instantly sold out and double to triple retail price every single time) but he is by far the most influential guy in fashion right now for the 16-35 demographic.

Qft

Come up kind of empty? LOL WUT. The mans designing track record speaks for itself. In here acting creating a successful line is some small undertaking only shows how much of a clown you really are. Supposed to be grown men in here sounding like salty birds.

Yea sure play cloths is completely in the realm of what Ye wants to do :rolleyes

The reason is because people are sheep. People for the most part don't know how to express themselves and fashion is all about expression. Kanye is an artist in every sense of the word so he has no problem expressing himself but in terms of fashion he's always adopted what was hot in the hood and put his own little flare on it. From the preppy style of Ralph and he'll just throw his collar up to make it his signature look, to retro Jordan's that white America never gave a **** about but urban culture dedicated a whole forum to specifically about "talking Nike's" to now this flannel thing, kanye isn't doing anything original, he's just spreading it to the masses. Once he realized his appeal he starts throwing in skirts and leather, things that he even got influence from overseas. I won't deny his power in the realm of fashion and art but he's distancing himself from the very people who influenced his creative style from the jump and catering to mainstream America. I'm not knocking it because that's where the bread is but that's why I have a problem with this new kanye. He has no humility or at least doesn't appear to have any. I thought it was a front for the cameras for the longest but him doing mosh pits at concerts and trying so hard to be different....nah man that's not the 'ye that I related to man

You missed the point. Bless you for the passion you put into all of that though.

I know many of you swear by Kanye as "influencer". And I've said this before. It's a sad testament to how little people think for themselves that they feel the need to harp on the next man's "influence".

I was in that age range you mentioned over that period of time and Kanye has had zero influence on me or any of my peers from what I can tell. I guess based on what you're saying, we're the few that are capable of thinking for ourselves without "influence" from Kanye West. But contrary to what you might believe, that is more the norm than you think.

Back to the original point, before someone felt the need to sound off on Kanye's "influence" again, someone suggested that all of Kanye's talk is basically part of him talking things into existence. And that just has not happened when it's come to his incessant ranting about "fashion". That was the only point.

And that's more about design than influence. Feel free to spin your wheels on some other tangent though.

:lol at "most influential guy in fashion". To teenagers? More influential than the guy who MAKES the clothes he wears? OK.

Lord some of you have a very warped perception or most not really know anything about fashion. In which case you shouldn't speak on it as freely as you do.

CLEARLY many of you are influenced by Kanye West. So much so that you feel the need to talk about it ad nauseum. But don't get yourselves confused with the rest of the general population.

EDIT: I missed what lamekilla said but sums it up. But even when you talk about Ralph and Jordans, all of that was already being done. For years. And a lot of the new **** he's been on, not THAT many people are really out here rocking all that.

Who said it was a small undertaking? No one. And what designing track record do you speak of. I gave an example in Pastelle. Where is yours?

If you want to talk about "grown men" then pretend to conduct yourself like one.

Again, you're missing the point. Let the emotion go and think and read clearly.

I simply said that for someone who's talked as much about fashion and design as he has, he's come up empty, and he has. And he's been trying for YEARS.

I never suggested that Play Clothes and what Kanye wants to do are the same. If you read the words I typed, I simply said that without talking, the Clipse have managed to create a successful clothing line. Artists that, when they started the line, no one looked at as "influencers".

The words are there for you to read. If you guys remove all the emotion that's driving your responses, and stop interjecting into what you believe I said, it's clear as day.

But I see the volcano bubbling in here and I ain't trying to hurt no feelings so I'll let it go.

Oh the irony. That sig though....

What I find most amusing is that all I do is try to provide balance to the over the top statements made by some of Kanye's most irrational fans.

And it bothers so many of you so much.

And one last note....for those of you claiming that Play Clothes is nothing like what Kanye was or is trying to do, you might want to take a look at Pastelle again.

That was not some high end ****. And it didn't work. I'm not making that **** up. Just putting things in perspective. But ignorance is bliss I suppose....

If coming from being a suburban kid rapping to designing for international brands & basically transforming into a style icon is "coming up empty" to you, then I'd like to see what your daily schedule/ life achievements consist of. And I'm expecting nothing short of outright ******* amazing.

What examples? LOL you seem to be up to date on everything else he does, so I'm gonna assume that its your hate that's completely blinding you from acknowledging the mans resume. Now we're gonna act like we aren't on the same site with several hundred page threads about a shoe that a certain rapper happens to have designed? Aight :rollin

Phil I value your opinion elsewhere honestly but when it comes to Ye' you're just a full blown hater :lol **** would respect you that much more on the topic if you just flat out admitted you don't like the guy or anything he does.

You respect my opinion elsewhere because my opinion is sound. It is nothing short here.

Look, we do this dance over and over again. Kanye is an artist/musician. Who makes great music which I always give him credit for....WHEN he makes great music.

I've said that regularly in this thread but somehow your perception is I don't like "anything he does". And that's ridiculous. Ive said he makes great music and is a great performer. I just provide balance when people go overboard.

He has come up empty so far as a designer, designing his own clothing. That is ALL I'm talking about. Not his accomplishments as a whole. Which of course are admiraable.

You can see it in the man himself how what he HASN'T accomplished in that field frustrates him. I'm not sure how much clearer on what my point exactly is I can be.

What examples? I mentioned Pastelle. And you still really haven't said anything. Dudes want to talk about Yeezy's like every limited Nike doesn't sell out. Like hideous Galaxy Foams weren't HIGHLY desired. Or any Air Jordan. Now Ebay markup is a gauge of your abilities as a designer :lol

Dudes want to talk about him being the "most influential" as if that's something that can be qualified or quantified. As if the concept of "influence" is concrete. As if all people are influenced by the same thing.

A wise man once said....

1187691

I said the same things about him as a performer. Appreciating what he does is great. Insisting he's the BEST is OD. That the mentality of a child. Or a **** rider.

I have no interest in sharing what my daily schedule/life achievements are with Niketalk. Nor does that have anything to do with me being entitled to an opinion. Although coincidentally, you could look around this very forum and others right now and see some of them.

I am very happy with my life. So much so that I don't feel the need to be vocal about what isn't happening in it really. I just go get it.
