Kanye West Addresses “False Stories” Regarding Fictitious Nelson Mandela Quotes

Over the weekend, a satirical online publication called The Daily Current used Kanye West's recent interview tour and the passing of Nelson Mandela's passing in order to publish an interview, where West called himself "the next Nelson Mandela." Although there was no source cited for the conversation, it did not take a lot for the public to be convinced that these words given his recent remarks where he compared himself to the likes of Steve Jobs, Walt Disney, Shakespeare, Michelangelo and more. Thus, Kanye found himself on the receiving end of rampant criticism throughout the social media universe. This prompted 'Ye to take to Twitter and address the situation. Read below.

Respect to Mandela, his family and his legacy.

@kanyewest Follow

Despite recent media reports, I've never said anything to dishonor or trivialize the life or transition of one of the most inspiring leaders

@kanyewest Follow

I'd like to address the false stories and noise that have been engineered by the media.

@kanyewest Follow

At a young age my mother taught me the importance of his work. Mandela sacrificed his life for the betterment of mankind.

@kanyewest Follow

Thank you, Mandela, for your life's work and may it serve as a guiding light to illuminate our future.

For all the recent shows, has Ye stuck to his left (viewers right side) on stage?

^ The first show on Sunday night. My friends are also doing the official after event with Been Trill at The Hoxton.

Kanye West declared his godliness, Lorde ruled the charts, and Miley Cyrus twerked her way into living rooms in 2013. As the year comes to a close, the critics once again reveal their choices for the best in pop music. TIME, Entertainment Weekly, and Rolling Stone comb through their playlists and pick the top albums and singles of the year.

Kanye West’s Yeezus may not have been nominated for Album of the Year at the Grammys, but it was ranked No. 1 by TIME and EW. “Has there ever been another great album this bitter, this entitled, this abrasively unsatisfied—or this self-aware about it?” asked TIME‘s Douglas Wolk.

On the singles front, Daft Punk and Pharrell’s “Get Lucky” topped all three singles lists, while Big Sean’s “Control” scored TIME‘s No. 3 spot thanks to Kendrick Lamar’s explosive verse.

You really place that much value in the opinions of "critics"? Or is it just in this instance?

It's just another opinion. They aren't doctors. It's not like you need a degree to be a critic.

The people will always have the loudest voice when all's said and done.

i'm mostly just pulling your leg.

i do find it funny that you keep saying "the people" like MOST people don't like the album though.

is there a loud contingent that doesn't?  yes.  but more people than that do like it, so i mean...  who are the people with the loudest voices?  the 700,000 who have bought the album to date and are selling out the shows and are generally checking for him?

or you?

you have an opinion.  that's fine.  but a raucous minority does not a majority make.  plenty of people hate kendrick/drake/cole/macklemore/jay-z's albums too.

so?

Kanye isn’t so worried about how the album is received in the present anyhow. He considers himself a futurist, and his concern are the kids who look at a Grammy winners Wikipedia page 50 years from now to get an idea of what music mattered during the earlier part of this century. As West put it in a New York Times interview earlier this year, “I don’t care about the Grammys; I just would like for the statistics to be more accurate. I don’t want them to rewrite history in front of us.”

That feeling was the impetus behind him running on stage at MTV's Video Music Awards to declare that Beyoncé had a better music video than Taylor Swift. He’s admitted to considering a similar stunt when Justin Timberlake and Gnarls Barkley lost Album of the Year to the Dixie Chicks in 2007.  He’s said that Ray Charles’ Genius Loves Company beating Usher’s Confessions is “inaccurate.” His argument is that, as the most prestigious awards show in music, the Grammys “have to take some responsibility to say what really happened in culture.”
For the record Ye said that Kendrick and Daft Punk getting nominated is huge as a way to tear down the old guard and that if either of them win, we all win.

I would love to see rap artist put their efforts together and really create a true Music awards... and Puffy with Revolt i think will be the first to knock down that door.

glad to see The Weeknd's Kissland mentioned on a top 10 of the year.

the album was so good, definitely deserves much more shine

I'm hoping Ye comes out and plays as a surprise guest for Cali-Christmas since he's performing in Anaheim on Friday, and Cali Christmas is on Friday.

That would actually be great. I think it might actually happen.

^^^ Better than the OG . . . Executed the concept of it being chaotic and angry better than the OG. Should have been the OG.
