OFFICIAL Ye fka "kanYe West" x G.O.O.D. Music Thread - ¥$ (AKA YE X TY DOLLA SIGN) - VULTURES 2 (NOW AVAILABLE sorta)

Part two is interesting I feel like Kanye is struggling as an artist and as a brand because he is a black man who came in the door through hip hop and now he is locked in the room and will do anything to get out even saw his own legs off .Its a seriously messed up situation because black artist intellectuals are either forced to make propaganda that pigeon holes them into speaking for a group .Thats his struggle he can't legitimize what he does or what he says .The major problem is that his approach to things is extremely heavy handed and he has to brag about his every move .It reminds of when bill gates was all over tv on how successful Microsoft was and then Apple finally hit its stride and Bill went from iconoclast to apartof system that was rigid soulless with no artistic or human merit.

Kanye thinks money will allow him to leap hurdles that stop him proceeding but the fact he continues to go to the same fashion shows as the people he clearly doesn't like work with shoes with a corporation that doesn't respect his creative vision completely and work with people who don't seem to completely give reigns means he really wants these peoples respect instead of rejecting them and carving his path by himself for himself. Also he is giving steve jobs too much credit to be honest
Right on the head with this one. Honestly, it's pretty clear he's driven not by changing the world or doing great things, but by being recognized for changing the world. He lives to be praised, and has already gotten that out of music after MBDTF. It is gonna be interesting to see where the next 10 years takes him

When someone refers to their OWN work as "perfect", it should actually let you know they've lost it.
This.

But kanye has been this way his whole life. This is the same guy who no one would sign just on a grander scale. He has spoke everything into existence. Without this "crazy" aka confidence/arrogance there would be no Ye today

I feel like he has to come to an understanding with himself that praise from people who don't respect you it's worthless .This interview his mannerism where one of a kid who really really wants an adult to understand the message he is trying to convey and respect it and empathize but it just wasn't happening .He started looking around the room like yeah that was deep did y'all just here that. While some points were true especially his remarks on how black people are pigeonholed as far as fashion I feel like it doesn't stem from a person battling racism ala Jackie Robinson or Muhammad Ali it seems more like a man whom is having in Paul mooney a n* wake up call

I just feel like Kanye West is...Kanye West. Like there's so much to the Kanye West story that could be put into the music man. He's short changing and cutting corners on the art.

So much he could really speak on musically and from a rap perspective, but throws it away with soooo many poverty lines and I can't let dude get a pass for that. You can't be a rapper, and then can't rap.

I just hear that interview and it was basically about himself, and how his ideas and fashion has changed the world. **** all that wanna be steve jobs **** man, make the damn music that touches the people, that relates to the people and moves the people in some way.

Nothing polarizing about "I am a god, where's my croissant," or that record with Chief Keef, or those horrid lines on the intro of yeezus. I don't understand how someone as "artistic and talented" and ye can say those things, and get praised and called a damn genius for it. You can't say you're pushing culture, and trying to move music forward saying **** like that man.

His status as a fashion icon is completely overstated, he's more of a middle man between rich white people and rap fans who have never seen a Vogue before. Everything that he is directly responsible for (Kilts, Leather Sweatpants, Shutter Shades, Yeezy's)... aesthetically trash.

He's good at going to Europe and naming things that he sees. I guess that makes him Karl Lagerfeld to the people of KTT and such.

I completely agree. His fashion exploits are deemed innovative to those who aren't into the fashion world.

In no way am I trying to bash ye, I want to be a fan of him and his music, that interview just put me off completely.

Confidence/arrogance is something I understand well. And I agree with what you're saying for the most part.

The belief that you've achieved "perfection" is preposterous.

Because where do you go from there?

Infinite reps above me as well. That's why I can't see him as a "cultural leader". Jay is more of a "cultural leader" than Kanye is just on the strength of his accomplishments.

Fashion though? Big Boi kicked off the throwback era. Jay ran with that. Kicked off the button ups. Pharrell was right there at the start of the sneaker boom, rocking Dunks etc.

Plenty of rappers have their moments in fashion. That's all they are. Moments. Some may last longer than others. But that **** hardly makes you a "cultural leader".

you two must understand the middle man or connector is the most important person sometimes -

Reagan couldnt come to the hood and give crack directly out his hand he needed middlemen

Record companies dont know whats hot, they need a middleman

Vogue type of designers can't just get to the hood, they need that Validation from the middleman to say hey hood its ok

Yall underestimate what kanye means , along with other certain rappers ... he just happens to know his worth

Sometimes knowing your worth rubs people the wrong way, until they get in the same position

while this maybe true to you, ( i understand just playing devils advocate) Someone genuinely likes it,

ex: 5 million people hate BEP's album, but guess what 5 million people loved it somewhere

All hail the middle man!

:lol

Again, Grand Puba was that guy once with Hilfiger ****. No one is looking at him as an "icon" etc.

People are looking at **** that's been done before ad nauseum and putting it on a pedestal and it's absurd.

Let's be real though. Outside of the Yeezy's, a lot of which is driven by their resale value, NONE of those things are cultural benchmarks in any capacity.

And no one looks at the Black Eyed Peas as musical revolutionaries. Sooo.....

Quite frankly, I do think Ye's Fashion influence is overstated. The common man (urban man at that) is not going to be wearing most of the stuff he pushes anyway.

But I don't care for the fashion part. The only reason why I mentioned it is because he throws it in people's faces, and uses that as one of the ways that he's changing the world....let that marinate...Ye compared and continues to compare himself to michael jackson, steve jobs...and uses his fashion exploits as examples. No, just no. He's not that influential.

And really my point was that he gets hailed as this genius musically, and is this "God" in this rap world and he's borderline bad. Call it like it is. If people are really concerned with pushing the culture forward, then they shouldn't be praising Ye (Or whomever) as a god and just this "Awe inspiring musician" when they literally spew nonsense in their music. What the hell is that man saying at the end of New slaves? Something about cumming in a hampton spouse? This man said "When a real ***** hold you down you supposed to drown.." What the hell is that man? And we have outlets like pitchfork and Zach Lowe from BBC out here clamoring to how great that is. Really? That's "God-like?"

Ye is supposed to be this innovated polarizing figure that is pushing music forward, when really he's kind of holding it back. And i've felt that way since 808's. (Which I LOVED..LOVED) Then he does this interview with Zach Lowe and it's like...a bunch of empty ego stroking bs that says absolutely nothing...like most of his music.

Y'all got me ranting and what not :lol oh well, this what a forum is for

yes as far as contributions to pop culture

When is the next time you think 3X Your Size jeans will be in style outside of really hood dudes? Even hood dudes with money stick to sagging the slim straight trus robins or levis...we're never gonna see big *** jeans like they were in say 05 and before...pharrll and ye are mostly responsible for bringing that to urban culture, rappers with more of a street demographic than ye and pharell piggybacked off of that

As far as the shutter shades, i will never personally rock a pair like I said, but its one of the few things from the 2000s that can be directly attributed to the 2000s .... I know they were out in the 80s but it wasnt the beach/tourist shop staple it has become now...they have become a staple in american culture like shark teeth necklaces or something idk
laugh.gif
... They are a fixture at the beach and not many artists are doing that where things from they wear become staples like that

The leather sweats thing just shows that kanye has a great niche for predicting trends...think about where leather sweats fit in the styles at the time of 2007
It all comes back bro. Everyone knows that.

The hell you talking about bruh? Bill Gates still relevant and pretty much focused his entire being to helping those in serious need of help. LOL these folks are lost souls with no grasp of reality or what it means to even be human.

I'm pretty sure shutter shades were in all those ****** beach shops way before 2000. Like you said, they been out since the 80's.

And I still don't see them on the beach like that for them to be considered a "staple in American culture".

I can't even believe this **** is a discussion :lol

Ye is awesome. The music and some of his rants inspire me. HOWEVER, sometimes the rants go over board and just lose focus. I take the good from the rants and shun the bad. He feels how he feels and you gotta respect that he says and shows how he feels. IMO, with that power he has, I would focus less on the materialism and focus on helping lives. Rather feed some people and educate them than to give them some new t shirt or building that looks cool. But hey thats me. That materialism fades, helping somebody LIVE and think is forever.

PS I'm not perfect

Eh. I'm someone who realizes you can't always say and show how you feel. Or maybe you can if you're just ranting/complaining etc.

But you can't just run around snuffing everyone you want to snuff. That's part of being an adult.

So I don't respect that persay. And I'm not even sure he really says what he feels.

Because the words and the actions don't always match up with him.

Same dude a few months ago said he's not a celebrity and now it's "I'm the #1 rock star on the planet".

C'mon son. Get your mind right and figure out who/what you want to be.

I agree with everything in bold as well. If he did THAT ****, then I might call him a "cultural leader".

Steve Jobs killed Bill with those Pc and Mac commercials homie made him look like a complete socially inept nerd.Bill had all the talent in the world yet he couldn't design a product that looked great and performed well . pcs and MP3 players were all chunky and cumbersome I mean Christ remember the Zune.

none that **** matters because bill gates actually gave money to apple so they wouldn't go bankrupt in da mid 90's...

Man, after watching that second video....

**** all ya'll talkin' that ********.

Kanye is the TRUTH.

Dude is talking about wanting to design and build things, while he's hit a ceiling where people only want him to promote things, even though the ideas he's had shot down have gone on to become successful when other people with the ability to produce them did so.

Son was speaking on wanting to design his highschool's basketball team's uniforms through his own company, and have it be so dope that they can sell as popular apparel. That's sick, and totally concievable. Same with the theater experience that was so nasty surrounding the Mercy video.

I really don't understand the hate, other than it stemming from a lack of being able to concieve of yourself as ever being able to reach those heights as well. He literally broke down the whole way of thinking that ya'll are following, the "I can't relate to him, he's arrogant! A god? How dare he!" way of thinking. Who do you think 5 percenters think is God? Who do you think Wu-Tang, Nas, Jay Z, Andre 3000, etc think is god? Their damn selves. He straight up told ya'll to stop putting your identities in a box, where you can only be so great. There doesn't have to be a limit.

Dude is over here quoting Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead, speaking on real subjects and ya'll are attacking him with that peasent's menatlity.

"Waahh, Kanye can you please come back down to us regular folk? Waaah, Kanye stop thinking you are so great! Waaaah, Kanye why you gotta be so hype about your visions? Waaaah, Kanye please please go back to before you were this high up on the cultural foodchain. You were so much easier to relate to for us peasants! Waaaah, Kanye please stop viewing yourself in ways that i could never imagine viewing myself!"

Bruh. Dude is over here talking about Ray Kurtzweil. Like, bruh. How many rappers are talking about Ray Kurtzweil? How many PEOPLE are even talking about the singularity?

Man, ya'll can keep your limited thinking.

/rant.

Funny how no one has mentioned that despite all this talk of civil rights and inequality, dude's city is on fire right now and I don't think I've heard of him doing one thing recently to try to help out there.

People are getting toe-tagged by the tens every week in the Chi and son is acting like leather sweatpants and beefing with Hedi Slimane makes him a revolutionary.

He's a musician. An amazing one, but that's all. Stop drinking the Kool Aid and making this about more than it is.
