We’ve seen Microsoft cut products/divisions for less. I dont have any hope for the future of Xbox in the next couple years.

Xbox has been making money

They were profitable, but not profitable enough.

That the issue

And the MS executives want higher profits and growth. That's how MS operates. That's how all tech companies do now.

Seems like Xbox is cutting anything it sees as lower margin. So far we got news:

-Stop funding a Fantasy game by IO
-Considering stopping Blade
-Considering closing, selling or spinning off studios not on big franchises. Up to 5 so far.
-Frooze third party Gamepass deals for devs it seems

I won't put it pass them to try to sell iD and Machine Games

I think stuff like the new game from the original Arkham devs probably gonna get cut. Would be interested to see if that new Activision open world game survived as well.

Kojima game seems to be safe.

Seems like they are gonna do division wide layoffs and merge some teams as well.

Phil gave tons of people money to build their dream game but MS execs saying them days over. Gotta make a lot of money or it is cut.

No telling where this goes, that’s for anything gaming and tech related as well. AI, tariffs, etc, is giving these companies excuses for their mismanagement and oversight. If projections are correct and hardware costs more than double within the span of 6 months…. Yikes.

But, this is the world certain people chose.

It’s a perfect storm of bad stuff.

-AI is costing a ton and MS needs to cut a lot everywhere.
- games take longer and longer to make meaning budgets inflate.
- fortnite, cod Minecraft gta still are black holes and suck up players time and money. So a game like blade in 2026 has a way harder time of making its budget back than it would in 2015-2018.

Making money in gaming has shifted too. Million dollar games can sell well and still not hit the mark, while free to play budget titles might strike gold and sell billions in in-game bs. Just a volatile market and industry right now. Monopoly mobile has made billions of dollars lol.

Yea it’s a toss up with f2p games. Candy crush is declining which is also contributing to xbox poor financials. Like we maybe aren’t even here if candy crush does better and BO7 wasn’t a terrible bomb.

They need to stop it with these hugh budgets. We've seen games with a "modest" 40 - 50 million have great success.

Things are gonna have to change or else.

Xbox made a bunch of solid AA games, people didn't buy them. It didn't drive more GamePass subs.

Trying to make hit AA games the cornerstone of their lineup is a huge risk as well

Solid pivot.

The crazy outspend and expansion for AI right now doesn't even match the effectiveness. That crash the massive government bailouts will be something.
That’s why they most likely have nothing to lose.

And that’s why execs rather gamble on the f2p lotto tickets than the big budget AAA games. They’d rather shoot their shot on 10 versions of Scrabble 2.0 than Blade. Just a numbers game to them

Make game pass more expensive
Make a huge title not accessible at launch to try to drive sales

Makes me not want to touch COD again

They kind of backed themselves into a corner with Game Pass. It was a too good to be true service for awhile. We all remember those $1 deals.

They were (still are?) making bank on it for a time, but they also conditioned people not to buy and pay for games.

I see MS making a lot of painful and unpopular decisions in the future, but I don't see any other way out of their predicament.

It really sucks for the employees though.

The bigger issue is the game was bad. You can’t raise the price and expect people to show up for a bad game.

People weren’t buying games anyway. When people say oh they a rent buying games they aren’t talking about annual madden or 2k. They are talking about the random game from Ubisoft or square enix. Indie games have been dead on console for ages now. Gamepass worked because people still bought their 2 games a year but they also subbed and you extracted monthly money out of them.

If gamepass dies people aren’t going to suddenly start buying newer stuff. Heck on the Sony side Saros was a mega bomb only selling 400k copies. And that user base is 3x the Xbox

Those games bomb too and also you can’t get that budget in the US unfortunately. That’s why they are closing these studios because even an AA game in North America will still prob hit 100mill in budget

We’re also dealing with the aspects of continuous service in games. Gone are the days when day 1/month 1/years 1 sales were the end all be all. Many games today rely on content updates, season passes, dlc, twitch viewerships, YouTube vids, monetization, and a whole lot of other things. Everything is taken into account, a lot of it not even “development” centered so to speak. I’d hate to have to figure all that bs out. Gaming industry is just in a weird place

I won't be getting into it anytime soon I believe but I bought Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade on the Xbox store.

I saw my younger brother playing it on PS5 and the game looks incredible.

I been getting from game to game, now playing GTA V in hopes of finally beating it.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is great. Rebirth took it to another level. It’s still one of the best games on PS5 Pro too! I cannot wait for Revelation :smokin
