OFFICIAL THE WIRE THREAD.. ''The game is the game"

years late but finished The Wire last night.

It was good. It wasn't some groundbreaking show imo. Who didn't know the inner workings on the inner city is screwed up?

The way it ended it was a little underwhelming. After all that Omar got shot by some kid smh?! The happy coincidences with the fake serial killer lol.

Mans watched the joint 20 years later talking bout its not groundbreaking lol.

After he most likely watched dozens of shows that expanded on themes brought to light by this show.

What makes The Wire unique was showing the entire picture of a failing city. Not just the cops or poor people or politics. As of yet, not many shows have had major themes based on such a wide variety of segments of society.

It’s not groundbreaking because we already knew the inner city was foul all around?

By that logic what are your groundbreaking shows?

 I see some feel some kinda way. Maybe groundbreaking was a poor choice of words. But it was a good show.

I watched it for the first time last year.

They’re literally doing Hamsterdam as an experiment following the show. The theme of “fake news” materialized from journalists and also Juicy Smollets. The 90s crime laws. The impact of inner city schools and Lebron James or Jalen Rose starting their academies. Crooked cops? Not to say it wasn’t a thing before…but we obviously see now that they can possibly be held accountable for their actions. We still have a ways to go but the way Cops in the wire could conduct themselves…

It may not be my favorite TV show. But this and Sopranos running concurrently. That’s crazy and a testament to the quality of HBO TV series. It also probably led to the serial nature of TV shows today. Before TV was rando week to week stuff. Just generating content to generate it. But now, we expect a beginning and an end with our stories.

Good read to prep for that series
