Red is probably the best color to get on dark skin. I would stay away from blues and purples cause it tends to just come out really dark. Green could be an option but not everyone is hip to having green on their skin. But red and even with tattoo removal, is the most bold color I believe.

Sunblock should only be used for after it's done healing. It could cause infections. Think about it, would you put sunblock to heal any open wound or even just bad skin?

I use Aquaphor which is a healing ointment and after about 3 days, I just use regular non scented lotion to heal the rest. Usually at most for me takes a week with this procedure and then after when you go out in the sun, you can use sunblock.

^^^^actually he did his apprenticeship at Lowrider in LA, which explains his style of tattooing. He said he met Jun Cha too and didn't think highly of him. He said he's somewhat over critical with other people's work. Granted my cousins wasn't nearly as good as he was then now but still, no point in showing a person that you don't like his work.

But again....I said it before, my cousin is a good kid. Dude is dedicated to this craft and even after graduating from college in design and being a straight laced kid, he chose to do this and will never look back (mostly due to him being totally tattooed now).

And a side note, his wife is crazy good at drawing too. Believe this or not, these are all drawings she did with like graphite pencils. I still don't get how she does it.

^what's incredibly impressive is the glare in the eye and the smoke in the kim k picture...amazing work. makes me wonder, when it comes to visual art, is it a talent that is innate or something that one can practice.

3 out of the 3 artists i go to consistently tell me to use aquaphor, anywhere between 3-4 days after getting work done. only complaint is that it is sticky as hell. **** is harder to wash out of your hands than beeswax. don't bother wearing a nice shirt.

Also dude with a 5 skin tone (like me) I am pretty sure we can't get tattoos with that kinda detail unless the image is large. If you want something like that it will be a no go from my understanding. Tattoos just heal different on our skin. /:

Ironically you are right though. Aside from doing a commission here and there, you won't find legit work even with that talent. I mean the first thing i think off with jobs and photorealism drawings is those guys doing on the streets near tourist areas. It's kind of the harsh realities. You sort of need a niche and your own style to make money with your art.

Yeah purple and dark blue tend to mud out on dark skin. Example. Purple will end up looking like a bruise and you won't see the line work.

That could be the first mistake already. You should know exactly what you want to get before you get it. It should have some reason or meaning behind it, not just cause you want one. Do your research on what you want and who you want to do the work for you, then you're good to go. It's on you for the rest of your life so you don't want to be that person that regrets getting a certain tattoo. I somewhat did research on mine, but not enough i feel. Don't get me wrong, I like my tat but I felt like I could've made it a little better if I had done more research and been more decisive about it.

I agree but wasn't like this till later. I was watching this doc on tattooing and the artist said something that made total sense. Sometimes people want a crazy idea that doesn't necessarily translate well onto a tattoo. Usually those original ideas tend to look a little off or just plain bad. The classic stuff even though it's been done a million times over always look better. That's why when you see tattoo artists Instagrams, you always see the same type of stuff whether it be the dragon, panther, eagle, pin up, etc. Those are just timeless classic tattoos that never really get old.

Anyways.....it's really all up to the person. I think everything has to be considered....meaning, good art, good tattoo artists, etc.

Had my 4th session last week.. Here are some photos from the 3rd sesh (posted before) and 4th sesh to get an idea of progress.

Now my question to you guys, and I would really appreciate your feedback on this as I'm on the fence..  

What color should I go with for the Koi and the last Lotus???  

I keep bouncing back and forth between blue & yellow for the Koi (though this isn't a color a real koi would ever be) or a nice deep red.

For the Lotus, I was also thinking about a nice deep red (the other 2 lotuses are pink/red and purple) but would that look bland with a red Koi also?  Don't know what to do...

Need your help fellas!  Fongstarr???  Picasso Swerve??  Anyone!

That's coming out great Lexcruiser, I always wanted to know what is that stamp called? With the Asian lettering. I think yellow would look good on the lotus and probably deep orange or red for the koi

Yellow koi and a darker pink. Balances out the bold blue lotus in the middle and would compliment the lighter pink lotus up top.

If I didt get black koi's id get yellow.

I'm still looking up local tattoo shops for myself. It's becoming difficult, because there's a lot of great artists.

I'm also hesitant to pick one if they haven't tattooed black skin. I'm not dark at all, but certain colors might not look right.

Don't use yelp to look up reviews on tattoo shops. Go Into the shop and talk to the artists. And ask them about tattooing on dark skin. Great artist know how to make it work with color
