But even when i use to DJ since that wasn’t the genre i played (ambient, jungle,acid) i had 0 exposure to who Aphex twin was.

That said naming him top 5 in any genre is a Stretch Armstrong reach.

Exposure and critical success doesn’t equate to influence or greatness especially for an artist who tried to stay away from the spotlight and turned down working with big household name artist to do so. Im talking about the actual music the compositions, layers and textures of the music. But that’s a whole other convo not for this thread.

Aphex is like a soulsborne game at first ngl. I’ll give you a recent song from his last ep, in a room7 f760. Used dam near every drum sound on the machine and made it flow seamlessly. Albums drukqs, select ambient works 1 and 2 and classics. Not all electronic music is the same most not in the know think it’s all edm or daft punk pop style. What kinda of electronic music do you like? He is at his best imo doing acid house, jungle and ambient 3 totally different styles and sounds.
