BALTIMORE - A strange week that started with Denver Broncos quarterback Brian Griese almost breaking his ankle while tripping over a golden retriever was trumped by an even stranger game Monday night.
The previously undefeated Broncos gave up 31 second-quarter points to the previously winless Baltimore Ravens, who held off a second- half Broncos rally to win 34-23 in front of 69,539 fans at Ravens Stadium and a national television audience.
The most stunning part of the Broncos' second-quarter disaster came on the final play, when Ravens cornerback Chris McAlister returned Jason Elam's missed field-goal attempt an NFL-record 108 yards for a touchdown.
"That's the way we practice it," McAlister said. "I watched and hung in the end zone and let my guys set up the wall. All I saw was purple jerseys and green until I hit the end zone.".:Flowsomuch:.
