Boone on Jim Tomsula (95.7FM): "It’s his personality that makes everybody likes him. But it’s his knowledge that makes everybody loves him.”
What Current 49ers Have Said about Coach Jim Tomsula
No introductions will be needed when the new San Francisco 49ers head coach meets with his players for the first time in the coming weeks.
Jim Tomsula, the team's defensive line coach since 2007, already has an established relationship with most, if not all, of the men on the current roster.
Here's a collection of quotes from 49ers players over the years on the new leading man in San Francisco.
DT Justin Smith
"He will make a great head coach. Number one, he knows what the heck he’s talking about and, number two, he has the personality to go with it. A lot of times those don’t always match up.
"He's a fiery guy. He's not just a rah-rah guy, there's a lot more to him than that. He knows his stuff so you don't have to yell and just jump around all the time. You can actually talk. He'll give us some information, some input, how we're going to shut it down and that's what I appreciate about him."
LB Patrick Willis
"The job he’s done with the defensive line, as far as the techniques that they play with, has helped me a lot. People ask me how I’m able to do what I do and it’s because of the defensive line. They allow me to be free and make plays. He’s one of the best defensive line coaches I’ve been around."
NT Glenn Dorsey
"He’s a hard-working, blue-collar guy and a lot of guys in the locker room can relate to him. He knows how to put football stuff in life terms that you can understand. He brings a lot of enthusiasm to the game, and a lot of wisdom. He works well with us and we respond well.
"He’d make a great head coach. He’s just a tremendous coach, and he’s helped me a lot, on and off the field."
LB Aaron Lynch
"Tomsula is amazing. Even though he's on my tail, I get a lot of real positives from him. That's the great thing about it. He's not here to baby me; he's here to make me the best that I can be. He knows how to do it, too."
NT Quinton Dial
"He's helped me out a lot as well. He's helped me go into my playbook and making sure I'm sharp in everything I'm doing. You need to be prepared to play the game. He's hard on me, to keep me on my toes, keep me going and keep me working hard."
NT Ian Williams
"I’m blessed to be with the coaches I’ve had like Jimmy T. I've learned so much, too much to talk about, a lot more about life with Jimmy T, and more about the fundamentals and having more confidence in myself."
DT Tony Jerod-Eddie
"He can get intense. My first year was pretty rough to say the least. But as I’ve gotten older and more mature football-wise, he’s backed off. But he can still get intense at times; he does a good job. Jimmy is on you about everything little thing. Now I appreciate him for it because I’ve come a long way."
DL Lawrence Okoye
"Jim was the complete, 100-percent reason I chose to come here. He instilled so much faith in me. When I met him, he made that clear to me in a way that other coaches and other personnel people hadn't. And I'm 100 percent committed to Jim, and I'm going to make sure that I prove him right."
S L.J. McCray
"He kept telling me, ‘Keep doing what you’re doing. Keep working hard and keep shining and they’ll notice you.’ He gave me a lot of encouragement."
If I could keep only one assistant it would be Tom Rathman.

Tomsula is one of the most respected coaches in NFL. He will be quite popular with asst coaches looking for work at Senior Bowl next week.

Congrats Jim Tomsula for being the next head coach of the @49ers . One hell of a coach that has an exceptional way of teaching. #NinerPride
the amount of players that love this goomba is crazy...
Who knows. Everyone has to start somewhere. Look at John Harbaugh. Dude had only been a freaken special teams coach before his ascend to head coach. Nobody questioning that move in retrospect.Just playing devil's advocate - but for such a savvy and popular coach, why was he a D-line coach for so long and didnt get promoted either within or gone elsewhere?

I wonder where Fangio lands
I will have a brain aneurysm if that happens.
