I still don't get the outrage of what Hillary wrote though
I didn't even know they had prison labor do stuff like that
Eye opening stuff forreal

Yeah it is common, especially in the South.

I think Louisiana's Congressional building's and Governor's mansion's staff is almost entirely made up of prison. Nearly all of them black.

A like dathbgboy dathbgboy said, the 13th amendment legalizes slavery as a punishment for a crime

I'm not seeing the problem with prison labor unless it's for profit, then it gets murky.

I wouldn't have such an issue with it if the dudes got paid a decent wage, and could sue for labor violations.

Then that makes prison labor unprofitable.

One thing I wish would come back to prominence is the military vs prison option. Have an older cousin that got caught with weight and an ak that's a respected drill instructor and family man now.

Sounds like the Pentagon isn't giving cover to the stooge anymore :lol

@thehill

Pentagon: We can't square Trump's comments with our position on Qatar http://hill.cm/HdWydSX

Makes sense their position on the issue, they have the biggest US military base in the middle east in Qatar and Mr Marionette might've endangered them with his anti-Qatar comments tweets

I feel you, the only thing I worry about with that is that many white people will instantly get very comfortable with the thought of sending in ground troops.

And benefits that military families and veterans enjoy with start to targeted for cuts. (be hey, Trump already started that)

-Unlike many liberals, I'm not that anti military, I think it can be away to provide a backdoor jobs program

I feel the same way. They want to be for profit then they should pay the same taxes, and employees have the same rights as any other for profit business within scope of employment. Pay them minimum wage

Here is the thing. When it comes to prisons, I am full socialist.

All our prisons should be publicly owned, no private prison. Prison labor should not be used to make a profit for anyone. And we need extensive labor and civil rights protections for prisoners.

Criminal justice reform is complex because the system is broken in so many ways. But people kinda ignore how dangerous and **** life is inside our actual prisons. You sending people (men and women) to a modern slave plantation where there are in constant fear of death and sexual assault.

Do I think it's foolish that some them thought a potential Trump win would be some kind of sign that the Democrats needed to move farther left?  Yes, but at the same time I'm not sure how to we're ever going to get the party to move in a direction that actually addresses these issues instead of putting a band-aid over it and telling us they tried.
Do you really think that rehashing the same tired Hillary criticisms from the campaign trail is the solution? You can't move in a new direction when you keep falling into that trap.

The way I see it, Trump is the president and there are more tangible things to be concerned with.
No because nothing is going to change if we don't demand these so-called progressive politicians to actually be progressive.  She's not the only issue and is merely a symptom of a larger problem.

What's to stop another Trump from rising up in a decade or so?

Don't get me wrong, I don't want private prisons either, not in the least bit. We honestly will probably never see reform in that area that cause real positive social change.

The whole logic behind putting someone in a dangerous environment then expecting them to come out "rehabilitated" is stupid, not to say it doesn't happen.

But let me broaden the lens, they ask about your criminal record on job applications, they don't want somebody at the company that threatens profits or customers or staff, ok, if prison did what it claims was the goal, to rehabilitate, then why do employers fear former inmates in that sense?

Whole thing is messed up

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/06/06/us/politics/comey-sessions-trump.html?_r=0

WASHINGTON — The day after President Trump asked James B. Comey, the F.B.I. director, to end an investigation into his former national security adviser, Mr. Comey confronted Attorney General Jeff Sessions and said he did not want to be left alone again with the president, according to current and former law enforcement officials.

Mr. Comey believed Mr. Sessions should protect the F.B.I. from White House influence, the officials said, and pulled him aside after a meeting in February to tell him that private interactions between the F.B.I. director and the president were inappropriate. But Mr. Sessions could not guarantee that the president would not try to talk to Mr. Comey alone again, the officials said.

Mr. Comey did not reveal, however, what had so unnerved him about his Oval Office meeting with the president: Mr. Trump’s request that the F.B.I. director end the investigation into the former national security adviser, Michael T. Flynn, who had just been fired. By the time Mr. Trump fired Mr. Comey last month, Mr. Comey had disclosed the meeting to a few of his closest advisers but nobody at the Justice Department, according to the officials, who did not want to be identified discussing Mr. Comey’s interactions with Mr. Trump and Mr. Sessions.

Man, this story just keeps on giving :lol :rollin
