Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM Telephoto Lens $200

Or everything for $1000 bucks ..

I been looking hard and I really have no Idea to what I'm buying or if I need it

BTW, is from a dude I met in a photograph forum that's upgrading to something professional .. works in ads in NYC .. so he said is well taken care off!
everything for 1000 is a pretty good deal imo. i dont like the 18-55 lens but having the 17-40 L-series and the 85mm prime is a really good combo.that 85 is a very fast lens and extremely sharp, a good low light option too obviously. ive read plenty of good things about the 17-40 as well, i mean its a f4so if youre gonna shoot in low light youre gonna need a tripod but otherwise its a solid lens. for a grand thats a sweet starter pack

^^ I have no idea to what im doing and as far as shooting .. probably everyweekend when Im home with the fam .. probably pics of use and where ever we go ..but you are right I dont even know the difference between lenses but the prox. each one will let you get to ..

I'm really want that Canon XSi and I'll probably end up buying it .. but the rest of the stuff I just dont know about ...

What you're planning on shooting is crucial to what lenses you should consider picking up. The EF 17-40 f/4L is a really sharp lens excellent buildquality. Its downsides are that it's not the best for low light shooting plus the 40mm focal length may be too short for some. If you're looking totake quality portrait picture without spending way too much, I recommend the EF 50mm f/1.4. It's sharp, portable and has a much better build quality thanthe f/1.8 which feels like a toy rather than a lens. If you want the ultimate walk around lens for a crop bodied camera like the XSi, try the 17-55 which Italked about earlier. To me, it's worth the price.

I just picked up a nikon d60, what lens do you guys reccomend I pickup? I'm looking at this one right now:

with the 5D Mark II on the horizon the og 5D's price in the used market is gonna drop so I think you chose the right time to desire a 5D
Yep...the low price is what's really tempting me to make the switch. However I've decided to keep my 40D as well and I'm gonna find itreally hard to switch lenses with a crop body and a full frame. Basically what I'm trying to say is, I'm gonna be forced to pick up the EF 24-70 f/2.8Las a walkaround for the 5D just because my EF-S 17-55 won't be compatible with it. I'm having a hard time justifying a reason to get the 5D just forthe 85mm f/1.2L.

thats a seriousssss outfit 40D + 5D. the EF 28-70 f/2.8 L has been my holy grail of an all-around versatile lens for a longtime. I had a chance totry it out because one of my boy's uncle is a professional photographer. unless u see the pics at a 100x magnification, the sharpness is totally insane.thats what sucks abt the EF-S lenses, i have an XTi and most times id rather get an EF than an EF-S just because i know i'll get a used 5D in the future.

ive never tried the 85mm L-series but being a fan of prime lenses i'd imagine it'd be spectacular. and f/1.2 is super fast

i have a 50mm f/1.2 for my film system and that is one of the sharpest lenses iveever come across. all said and done about how far zoom lenses have come in sharpness, especially at wide open, im still a fan of prime lenses.

Be forewarned, the 85mm f/1.2L is a great lens, but it focuses realllllyyyy sloooooowwwww
I've used one before, and I could not get over how long it would take to focus on even a well contrasted object. The image quality is great, but if itisn't on a full frame, you aren't using it to its full potential. Only with full frame you can achieve its true minimum DOF. Cropped sensors can'tdo that.

does anyone here know of some photography forum where people go into abandoned buildings/underground and do photography? my brother was telling me about hisco-worker and some photgraphy forum that does this, just wondering if anyone knows the name of it/link to it.

thanks

My wife's been pestering me to tell her something I want for Christmas and I've been thinking about a filter set for a while.

Any opinions on something like this - they're on ebay for a pretty reasonable price.

Or any better suggestions? I'd like a set of that style with ND filters and some graduated ones.

Yeah...boiiii!!! Got a used 5D with under 5k clicks and 24-70L lined up for next week. Now time to hunt for that 85L.

Oh and since I haven't contributed a pic in here for a while, here's one quick shot of 'the Bean'. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
