i have an xti with the kit lens and the 50mm f1.8 lens and i plan on getting a flash. is the 430ex any good?
what do you guys recommend?
are these lenses gonna be alright?

just remember its nothing serious like a wedding, they really just need someone with a good camera to take pics lol.

anybody?

the 430 ex is a great flash. I have used on and just invested in one. Due to the Canon pushing the newer model, you should be able to find it for cheap. Ibelieve I got mine off of Amazon. As for the lenses the kit as well as a 50 mm should work just find. as long as the 50 mm is a good quality and you have akeen eye it will work out just fine. I know those lenses would be the ones I would bring

^ I suggest ordering it from Adorama. They process a lot faster and if you're in the East Coast, you should get it within 2-3 days upon shipping eventhough you choose UPS ground.

just added the D700 & a 24-120 lens to my kit
ill post shots from the camera soon...

sorry bout the bad iphone pics...

Felt motivated (Btw, you get into a photography class @ Loyola?)

1. Kind of boring macro shot, there are a million shots like it in this thread and they all function on the same thing a fascination with detail that lacks areal context or intrigue beyond your own fascination with the detail on a sneaker and/or ability to take a macro shot. Give me something to think about.
2. The focus isn't sharp. Otherwise same thing as 1st one.
3. Marginally more interesting than the 1st. I think both shoes, or even maybe just the one in context(aka in their environment wherever that is) andyou're getting somewhere.
4. 1st question would be why is it in B/W, the shoe has color...
5. It's crooked, overexposed, and an odd framing something about it's awkward, it feels rushed or uncomposed.
6. Far and away the best, it's underexposed by reasonable amount but the perspective is nice, the framing of the building in the top right is odd butehh...

how much editing is involved in photos like this?

I have about $500 right now, but I'm trying to wait it out till the end of the month and see how much i can save up.

Reason I said i might pick up a DSLR, is cause I have seen people on flickr get crazy results with P&S's, and some of these superzooms come with decentwideangle (around 28mm) and crazy telephoto (300mm+) I want to wait and see what Canon comes out with somilar to the D90, which is the Camera i really want, but the price is way out of my budget.

BAGH! I keep telling myself "all good, ill just wait for a few months" but end up looking @*% up online, on some window shopping steez.

I'm with you on that. I just bought my friend's K200D becauseit was too much camera for him. Before that, I was checking Adorama, B&H, etc. every few days. "How much is this now?" Expecting price dropsevery week

HUGE news from Canon before the Photokina event.

Canon G10 announced
Pre-Photokina 2008: Canon's PowerShot range has a new flagship in the form of the much anticipated G10, successor to the G9. Key changes include a new 14.7 megapixel CCD sensor and, more usefully, a new 28-140mm wide zoom and increased screen resolution - plus a DIGIC IV processor. A new top panel layout adds a dedicated AE compensation dial and there's an improved grip, but overall externally the changes are subtle.

Pre-Photokina 2008: Canon has announced a pair of 10 megapixel successors to its PowerShot S5IS 'super zoom' compact digital camera. Both the PowerShot SX10 IS and PowerShot SX1 IS feature 28-560mm (equivalent) 20x zoom lenses, DIGIC IV processors, improved image stabilization system and wealth of new features. The SX1 IS is particularly interesting as it is the first PowerShot to feature a Canon CMOS sensor, which allows the camera to offer 4.0 fps (full resolution) continuous shooting and true 1080p HDTV movie capture at 30fps.

The new lens has undergone a complete redesign and now features 13 elements in 10 groups, including two high-precision glass-molded aspheric elements and two UD glass elements, plus a floating focus mechanism to maintain performance across the entire distance range. It also features Canon's brand-new 'Sub Wavelength structure Coating' technology to minimize flare and ghosting, and is sealed against dust and inclement weather.
