Just seems like you're really into artifcial lighting but it always seems like really hard harsh light. Maybe harsh highlights and shadows is your steez and it works sometimes just seems like softbox would be helpful.

Depends on what you like shooting and what your budget is actually.
Portraits: Nikkor 85mm/50mm f1.4 (manual focus), Sigma 30mm f. 1.4 hsm
Landscape: Nikkor 12-24, Tokina 12-24, Sigma 10-20 (not sure if the Tokina and Sigma have motors in the lenses)
Tele (Sports/Safari/Bird Watching): Nikkor 70-300
General Use: Nikkor 17-55 f2.8, Tamron 17-50 f.28 Di2, Sigma 18-50 f2.8 hsm, Nikkor 18-200VR, Nikkor 16-85VR,
