Harris Wittels, one of the executive producers of "Parks and Recreation" died at his home Thursday from a possible drug overdose ... TMZ has learned.

According to law enforcement sources ... Wittels was pronounced dead around 1 PM. We're told the 30-year-old was found lying on his couch ... and there was drug paraphernalia in the house. There were no signs of trauma to his body.

Wittels spoke openly about his battles with drug addiction. He'd gone to rehab twice.

In addition to working on 'Parks & Rec' ... Wittels produced and wrote for "Eastbound and Down" and "The Sarah Silverman Program." He's also credited with making "Humblebrag," a thing on social media ... and even turned it into a coffee table book.

'Parks & Rec' is in its final season, and the last episode is set to air next week.

Wittels performed stand-up Wednesday night at The Meltdown -- an L.A.comedy theater. During his set he talked about being clean and sober ... and said he was in a good place.

  RIP, too young.

I didn't know much about him, I kind of wish I checked more of his stuff out while he was still around.. but I will now.

I was a huge fan of him on the show, of course.

Still a big surprise and disappointing... he seemed well loved by a lot of people and fans.

Damn didn't know there was a thread. So sad that this show is ending, watching it makes me genuinely happy. Good to see that they're ending it strong though, nearly episode this season has been on point.

RIP to Harris as well. Hilarious guy. His character in Parks was one of the best.

Sad news to hear about Harris passing away. Seemed to have made a big impact in the comedy world.

Also, finally caught up with this season. Can't believe that the show is ending for good.

Aziz's post about Harris:

Yeah his podcast appearances were always golden. He had his own called "Analyze Phish" were he, a huge Phish fan, tried to convince Scott Aukerman, a huge Phish hater, to like the band. (Knowing or liking Phish isn't necessary).

Here's a playlist of his segment on Comedy Bang Bang, "Harris' Foam (phone) Corner," where he told bad jokes that were saved on his phone but weren't good enough to use for standup or Twitter:

I heard him a lot on these podcasts and have been legit devastated over the news. I'll be thinking of him when the finale airs. :(

It does suck that it's ending, this is the only show I watch on network tv anymore. What else are you guys watching sitcom-wise that's any good. I was thinking about checking that new ken Marino show out.

Series finale tonight... Tears
This season was only like what 9-10 episodes

I'm already sad thinking about it

Yeah Ann and Chris show up tonight, they were in the picture from the last day of shooting.

So why did this show officially end?

I skipped last season but watched this entire season. Did it juat run its course?

Was suppose to end last season :lol
Just ran its course and most of the cast has a lot in their future. amy, chris, aziz, nick, aubrey, Adam and Rob Lowe all have films this year or coming out early next year. They didn't want to be like the office and run its course

A lot of the cast are working on other things. Rashida Jones & Rob Lowe left last season, it was probably only a matter of time before Chris Pratt and others did.

The creators also talked about having control of how to tell and end the story after so many years of nearly getting cancelled. And it seemed like the right time.

To me it seemed like they were running out of gas a little last season... giving themselves a finish line + the time jump really gave them the energy to do a great final 13 eps this year.
