The much anticipated second installment of the Nike Air Yeezy will release globally on June 9th
Forging a new form of sport craftsmanship, the Nike Air Yeezy II blends classic Nike court breakthroughs with the performance and aesthetic demands of bringing hype to a crowd of thousands.
A primal, tactile approach to technology runs throughout every element of the Nike Air Yeezy II. Armored animalistic forms imbue the upper. Hand skived anaconda textured leather quarter panels are embellished with a debossed Vac-Tech Nike Swoosh. The molded rear is sculpted with a reptilian inspired spike, while an engineered strap with scaled down spikes was developed to offer a greater sense of symmetry and lock down.
Bringing the inspiration forward from the late 1980's basketball foundation of the original Nike Air Yeezy, the II is built on the Nike Air Tech Challenge II tennis shoe outsole and celebrates iconic Nike Cross Training silhouettes with the addition of the molded forefoot strap.
There's absolute function at the Air Yeezy II's core. Unnecessary padding was eliminated, and the foot-hugging tongue and plush collar are both comfortable and breathable. Fit was essential to the design with the goal to make the shoe slimmer than the original by tailoring it to Kanye West’s foot. The collar was also lowered to allow for greater movement.
An obsessive approach to materials results in a luxurious mix of leather, rugged ballistic nylon, and soft nubuck. Concealed but opulent details reference ancient civilizations, including a loop strap with hieroglyphics that spell out 'YZY.' Each screw on lace aglet is obelisk shaped, and the anaconda texture is echoed on the eyelets and leather lace toggle that carries the Roman numeral 'II.'
The Nike Air Yeezy II in the Platinum and the Black edition will release June 9th at select global retailers in limited numbers.

Nike Air Yeezy II Release Details
Posted on May 15, 2012
So the time has come and we now have the official word from Nike regarding the much hyped Yeezy II release. After it’s postponement in April we didn’t quite know what was going on but we can now confirm that the official global release date for both colourways of the Yeezy II is now the 9th of June (Saturday). We will be selling both colours; the Wolf Grey/Pure Platinum and Black/Solar Red for the Australian recommended retail price of $350 per pair. There will only be three official stockists of the Yeezy II in Australia with Laced being the only official stockist in QLD. It goes without saying that these will be extremely limited, but to give you an idea, there are less than 30 pairs of each colourway in the country! …If you do the math, then you’ll see that each store only has a handful of each colourway to offer. So, due to the limited number of pairs we will be getting, we are going to hold a raffle to determine who gets to buy a pair. We feel this is the fairest way to run it considering the circumstances.
To celebrate the release we will be holding a launch event on the Saturday night from 6pm at the shop and this is when your raffle ticket (if you get one) could win you the chance to purchase a pair! We have decided to limit the amount of raffle tickets we hand out so each person has a fair chance of copping a pair. There will be a total of 70 raffle tickets handed out and these will be issued on a first come first served basis.
Apparently these are even more limited than the first Yeezy (from 2009) and the word is that this will be the last Nike x Kanye West co-lab…so, regardless of whether you’re going to rock, stock, or re-sell we suggest you get here EARLY!
*Strictly one pair per customer, no holds, no bribes, no discounts, no laybys…

The design process started during the recording of Kanye's Grammy-winning album My Beatiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. The Nike Air Yeezy II features several upgrades and design changes. Some of the essential components remain the same — the vintage Tinker Hatfield-designed midsole and outsole, Velcro strap, and glow-in-the-dark sole are still there — otherwise this is a whole new beast.
The high-top silhouette has been trimmed down to a mid-cut sneaker. It still looks like an athletic shoe hybrid, but with several unexpected design elements. Hand-etched leather made to look like anaconda skin and a molded, spine-like ridge down the back give the shoe an animalistic quality. Inspired by ancient Egypt, the hieroglyphics concealed beneath the Velcro and the bust of the deity Horus on the tongue add to the mystical quality of the shoe which Nike says is "viewed via a time traveling futuristic vision." The result riffs on classic Nike innovations, while taking sneaker design a step in a new direction.
Look for the Air Yeezy II, shown in Platinum, to drop in June for $245.
The tongue depicts Horus—the falcon-headed ancient Egyptian deity—to represent victory, protection and power. A leather lace lock and solid metal lace tips provide finishing touches on the look of handcrafted luxury.
Horus appears again on the inside of the Velcro strap with hieroglyphics that spell out "YZY."
This time Nike went with the Air Tech Challenge II tennis shoe sole unit originally designed by Tinker Hatfield.
The glow-in-the-dark sole from the first Yeezy is back and brighter than ever.
The initial concept was to keep the toe of the shoe very clean so it was slim to the foot to give a tailored fit.
This early design sketch had a Foamposite-style bootie to protect the foot and hold it in place.
Nike and Kanye wanted the shoe to look like something a warrior from the future would wear.
