SO many curses uttered during that goal..

Canucks played the game they wanted, just had a lapse for one play for the tie... then OT was a free for all.

Hawks are showing that even though they are young they can get the job done. Salo should be back for game 5, though.

Didn't see any of the game because I was traveling, but this REALLY sucks that they have to go play back-to-back games....

I can't say anything about the AO hit (because I didn't see it), but like CQuan said...both he and Gonch are great friends. And from what I wasreading, AO was affected (mentally) after what he did.

again....I can't speak on last night's game because i didn't see it...but Craftsy, how were the Caps playing dirty in game 3? You said the past 2games, right?

*just watched the vid*...while I definitely think a penalty (maybe even 5 minutes) was justified, I didn't see any attempt on AO's part to injureGonchar. It looked like Gonch tried to side step the hit, and thus their knees collided. It would have been a big collision had Gonch not tried to get out ofthe way at the last second....I hope there's no suspension, but you just never know how Campbell will see it....

what I find ironic in all of this is Brooks Orpik....he's talking about how dirty Ovechkin is playing and what have you and trying the whole "holierthan thou" approach, but isn't this the same dude who broke Erik Cole's neck on a dirty $*+ play 2 years ago?

Well they had about 7 penalties from what I remember - and probably could've had a bunch more. And yesterday there were a bunch of times in the 3rd periodwhere the refs decided to just let plays go, where the Caps easily could've been whistled.

They're just playing like scumbags right now - maybe it's out of frustration b/c they think they aren't getting calls or something, but they reallylook trashy out there.

I didn't notice it so much in games 1 and 2, but the last two have just been very eye-opening to me - and that's completely outside the Goncharincident.

It's all good though. Best of 3 series now, let's get it Pens!

eh....I wouldn't say that any of those 7 penalties were "dirty." There were a lot of retaliatory infractions (Mike Green and ChrisClark off the top of my head)...but it was normal hockey stuff that goes on over the course of a game...they just got caught.

anyways, should be a good game 5 tonight....i got my fingers x'd that AO is not gonna get suspended

^The play was reviewed last night an hour or so after the game and there doesn't appear to be a suspension for AO.

On another note, Mike Green needs to step up his defensive play before he ever wins a Norris. This guy is just looking like a junior player out there in termsof his defensive play, giveaways that lead to goals and definitely not doing his job with defending Crosby. He has all the offensive talent, but he won'tever be the best defenceman in the league if he continues with his horrid play on the other side of the puck.

Even if it was a dirty play or an intent to injure, there is NO WAY he would be suspended.

No you wouldn't suspend Ovechkin for that hit. There is no bad blood between them, no previous history with Ovechkin doing things of that nature, and itsthe playoffs with arguably the two most popular teams right now. Either way I look for the Caps to rebound tonight and take game 5 and wrap it up in game 6.Just an opinion of course.

Yeah...I agree w. you 100% on Green....he's playing like +$# in the defensive zone. At this point, he's become more of a liability thanan asset. These games in the playoffs are a lot closer, and this is when you see more complete D men like Chara and Lidstrom playing at the top(s) of theirgames. I just hope he doesn't turn out to be another Sandis Ozonlish(sp?)....

After reports surfaced this morning that Penguins defenseman Sergei Gonchar would be a game-time decision for Saturday's game 5 in Washington, TSN's Darren Dreger is reporting that the veteran rearguard will miss several weeks, perhaps even the remainder of the season with "an apparent knee injury."

Also in the report is word that the NHL will not suspend Alex Ovechkin for dishing out the hit that resulted in Gonchar's injury.

This is SO unfortunate...you never want to see anything like this happen....you want the BEST guys on both teams playing at the highest level in theplayoffs....Letang is gonna have to step up big-time...

Agreed. He's a 4th forward when he's on the ice. How is he even a candidate for the Norris?

Stats > defensive play

He could score as many goals as he wants... To me, a Norris Trophy candidate should actually play some defense.

Yeah...but people are going to look at the 14 games he missed and the offensive #'s he put up....not to mention the 8 game goal-scoring streakhe had...

but I agree w. both you and CQuan....the Norris should go to the most COMPLETE D-man in the NHL....obviously, Green has some work to do

They usually do a pretty good job at picking the right guy for the Norris. I don't think Green will get it this year just because of the fact that heisn't known as an all around solid defenceman. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Lidstrom got it for the 7th time in the past 9years
laugh.gif

It's close between Chara and Listrom... I think Chara is more deserving of the award this year but it can go to Lidstrom as well.

Oh, and this has to be the first time the 3 of us (Double,ATFK,Me) have agreed on something like this

season is OVER for the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Like I said earlier in this thread, Sergei Gonchar is more important to the Penguins than Sidney Crosby is.

^I wouldn't go as far as saying that..........they did pretty well at the start of the season without Gonch, let's see how they'll do the rest ofthis series.

I'm not knocking Crosby... But I just think that they are a 10x better team with Gonchar in the lineup.

^Yeah I dunno it's tough to call for me. Each of those guys are important in different ways just because they play different positions. Gonch def bringsthat veteran leadership as well as a smooth breakout from their own end. Crosby doesn't wear the "C" for no reason and he's been the bestplayer in the playoffs thus far (IMO). Can't wait for tonight's game, I expect the crowd to be crazy.

Gonchar being out is a huge loss for Pitt. IMO he's arguably the most important player on that team. When you take a great defenseman out your team isgoing to suffer regardless of who else you have. Sindey and Gino have to step it up big time.

Dupuis a healthy scratch tonight and the Pens go with 7 D.............Good to hear that AO spoke to Guerin and Mark Eaton telling them to tell Gonch that hedidn't hit him on purpose like that.
