In football, the reason for concussions is the face mask. The reason football first adopted helmets was because peopled used to die from the game (more frequently than the aberrations you see today, which is of course too much if it's anything other than 0).

The cause of those that died was skull fractures, so helmets were added rather than halting game play forever.

There was first a leather helmet as most know. Then, a hard shell. In the 1950s, there was a player named Otto Graham. He had a gash on his face and his coach wanted to protect him so he put this plastic around his face, and that became the first face mask, and then that became standard issue. What that did is it changed the way players tackled. Used to be shoulders, then head with more frequency after the face mask.

Its funny you mention that because in my comparative politics class today my professor said the same thing when he want of on a tangent today abut football

. He was basically talking about how things can have unintended consequences and is very nuanced. Helmets where brought in because people where dying but overtime helmets and facemasks have made the game more unsafe was his point simplified.

Jets should worry about the Wild Card....there's a reason Fitzpatrick bounces from team to team

I think we're trying too hard to make the NFL look like a bigger villain than it already is for saying no to Deangelo.

There are ALOT of people in the NFL. You don't think there's alot of players that have had tragedy or trouble in their past. Everyone is going to want to wear some color for some reason if you make an exception. Yellow for this, Orange for that, Pink for this. Badge on my jersey for this badge on my jersey for that. Brandon Marshal tried to do the same with that Bipolar awareness I think it was. It'll either turn into a complete **** show of colors on the field or the NFL will have to tell someone your loved one that passed away isnt as important as Deangelos.

Im totally on board about how this breast cancer awareness month is just a huge money grab to reach the female demographic. But the dress code is different. Rules are rules for a reason in this case.

Steelers DE Cam Heyward fined $5,787 for supporting his father, Craig 'Ironhead' Heyward, who died of cancer, on his eye black Monday night. Heyward is appealing.

I don't have a problem with this at all to be honest there is no harm in it. Let them do it, badge on jerseys no because thats the actual jersey but accessories why not. But thats just my opinion.

Don't let them alter jerseys, pants etc. I get it. But accessories? Go crazy

Exactly. Jerseys pants and socks should not be altered because THOSE are uniform. Accessories and cleats are not so yeah like you said let them go crazy.

NFL's hold on prohibiting players from self expression has gone too far in this instance
