OFFICIAL NEW YORK KNICKS OFFSEASON THREAD: TRAINING CAMP

I agree with u GR8... i think we should just stick wit Marbury for the year, try n trade a bad contract or 2 , and go after Stephen Curry from Davidson nextyear in the draft

I say we trade Lee now, and get value for him as opposed to waiting for his contract expire, and letting him walk away because we cannot afford him.

His stock is through the roof right now and if we have any chance at moving Zbo or Curry we will need to package them with Lee. Any team can take Lee and hewill fit right in. So, I say we trade him for a big or a solid PG.

Even with Steph being in his last contract, you have to consider he will step it up, because we cannot obviously sign for him, and if he wants other teams totake him he will need to show that he has some game left.

I say we trade Lee/Zbo for for a big or a PG and like a Raymond Felton who is young and can learn. Or get a Big like Okafor who is looking to leave theBobcats.

Not to mention, Lee would be an excellent commodity towards picking up future draft picks. We need to stockpile on draft picks if we ever want to get better.

Lee and zach don't belong on the same team, because both of them should be starting (maybe not zach but whatever), so a team taking on both of them ishighly unlikely

Now a 3 team deal would be a different story.
zach MUST GO.

^^that's the only way you can move a player like Zach, you need someone who is intising like a David Lee to make the trade even sweeter. Even if we got athird involved, someone would still lose out because they have Zbo on their team.

So packaging them together would make perfect sense. Especially since Lee has a cheap contract right now.

BACK IN NEW YORK? The Knicks could use their $5.1 mid-level exception on Lincoln High graduate Sebastian Telfair.

Donnie Walsh is just getting started. With 6-foot-10 forward Danilo Gallinari in the bag as one building block, Tuesday begins free agency, and the KnicksNew York Knicks

president will have multiple point guards to chase with his $5.1 million mid-level exception, young andold.

Walsh would like to make one sign-and-trade and one mid-level signing. Nevertheless, especially with the mid-level, he will not make an offer beyond twoyears, to protect his goal of getting under the 2010 salary cap for LeBron James, Dwyane Wade or Chris Bosh.

Other than rehabbing Stephon MarburyStephon Marbury
t.gif
, there isn't a legitimate point guard on the roster. And Marbury is in the final year of hiscontract.

"I think we can use help (at point guard)," Walsh said. "But we probably could go in the way we are but we'll probably look forhelp."

Golden State's Monta Ellis is a wonderful point-guard-of-the-future candidate but that has to be a sign-and-trade scenario because Warriors generalmanager Chris Mullin would match a two-year deal. Walsh and Mullin are close, making a transaction doable.

Other young free-agent point guards available for mid-level money are Chris Duhon, Brooklyn's Sebastian Telfair, Keyon Dooling and Tyronn Lue. Memphishas a glut of point guards after obtaining O.J. Mayo and may trade Mike Conley or Kyle Lowry. The Bulls, who desperately tried to get David LeeDavid Lee
t.gif
in the Eddy Curry deal three years ago, are also expected to shop Kurt Heinrich and restricted freeagent Ben Gordon.

Walsh said he is confident he can sign a solid player with a two-year deal, but believes he may have to wait it out into August in some cases. Veteran pointguards Sam Cassell and Carlos Arroyo are also free agents.

If he gets a point guard through a trade or sign-and-trade, Walsh could use the mid-level on shotblocking help, Adonal Foyle free. Another free agent issharpshooting Celtic guard Eddie House, who raved about Mike D'Antoni during The Finals and would love to reunite. House said he had his best season underD'Antoni in 2005-2006.

"I'm going to go in and see if players can help our team but in terms of long-term contract no," Walsh said. "There are players who canhelp us. No stars out there, but that's good because we couldn't get them anyway."

The Knicks' two free agents, dud-center Randolph Morris and guard Fred Jones are both goners. With the addition of Gallinari, the Knicks will have oneroster opening.

Adding Gallinari has created a glut at power forward. Walsh called it "the survival of the fittest." Lee, one of the league's best reboundersand their most popular player, is being shopped.

Walsh is also willing to move Curry and Jamal Crawford because of their long-term contracts, and they have value, too. The player he most wants to tradethough is the hardest to ship, Zach Randolph, who will make $18 million in 2010. Unlike the Nets trading Richard Jefferson to position themselves for 2010,Randolph's worth is minimal.

Nevertheless, Walsh discounts the notion his players have no trade value outside Lee.

"I would've said that early," Walsh said. "But as I got out there and started to realize there is value for a lot of players. People knowthey do have talent. But when things aren't going well, nobody looks good."

Curry. Nah yo i was thinking more along the lines of Rubio orJennings i dont want a spot up shooter running the point for the future.

but i agree with yall about Lee, we need to trade him becase the worst possible thing (other than drafting a rooster) would be to have Lee walk away from usand get nothing in return. I say we shop him and Curry and try and land a defensive center who could be this teams center for the future... and maybe somepicks.

and in that article i really didnt like any of the PGs mentioned. Isay stick with Steph one more year, he gonna tear it up anyway, none of those PGs woulddo as good for us as Marbury will be this year. Just let him finish $%!+ up. Than we let him and his $20 mil walk and look to adress PG in the draft nextyear... But i hate to amit it but i really liked Eddie House during the playoffs last year. I know hes a Celtic but hes had a clean J throughout his career andhe was scrappy and aggressive in the finals last year and although hes not a true PG i dont know but i feel in our offense he would be a solid pickup to comeoff the bench.

I say David Lee + 2009 Draft Pick for Mike Conley would be the BEST case scenario.

And anyway we can package Curry or Randolph with David Lee for an expiring contract and a veteran, pass-first PG should be approved IMMEDIATELY

btw i didnt watch the game yesterday but how was the Roosters reception at Yankee stadium?

GR8: Every post you say we gotta keep Steph and let him play this year and his contract will expire then. We know, nobody is suggesting anything different, either here on NT or in the Knicks management. It's pretty much a guarantee that he will finish up the last year of his contract in NY.

Please no Telfair. This dude is GARBAGE.

Those of you still complaining about the Danilo pick, just listen to a little common sense. On the one hand you are admitting we need to build to the futureand be patient with this team right now. Then on the other you are saying we need the PG this year who is going to help us win. Give them a year or two toreally find the guy they want for the future at that position.

Plus if we do trade Lee, and everyone agrees we need to ship Z-Bo outta here, then who do we have at the 4? The goal for Danilo eventually is for him to justgain a little strength, grow an inch or two, and he will eventually be sort of a hybrid PF with the offensive game of a SF.

We have a lot of SF and PF on the roster NOW, but in 2/3 years, I'm pretty sure EVERY PLAYER on the roster will be gone (who we can get rid of at least).By then Walsh will have brought in the players he wants, and Danilo could be a great player to help build around. To not draft him because we have a bunch ofbums who we are trying to get rid of at his position (whether its the 3 or 4) would have been a terrible move.

^^IMO Chandler>>Danillo

i dont want players that dont play D and Danillo doesnt play D,. i dont see him as a guy we can build around, and i say we need to let Steph play his lasy yearbecause people have been saying to get another PG.

i mean look around all these articles and $*%% all these people are saying we should either sign or trade for a PG right now and that is what i am saying weshouldnt do. For this year no PG we can get right now will be as good as Steph so just let him finish up and adress PG next year, no need to waste $ on aplayer who is not as good of a long term answer as somebody we can get a year later via draft.

Everything ight ow as to do with the future and i dont like Danillo for the future. If we trade Lee i dont think we should go after a PG this year but insteadpackage him and cuury for a young athletic, shot blocking big.

They really didn't show that part because of a minor rain delay and the switching from the chicago game to the subway series

But Fox had Danilo name all the Mets players

and then at the end hesaid : Please come see the knicks next year

the damn pick shoulda been traded anyway to get rid of zach

not to draft a rooster

and point guard is not the position of dire need right now, unless steph won't be ready to play

bassy would be nice, hometown signing, and he's on the rise

what's interesting is that no significant efforts have seemingly been made to convert nate into a point guard

son is 5'9, he'll never be a shooting guard

he showed flashes in summer league last year, but anytime he was on the floor durante la estacion , he was running 2, either with steph, jamal, or even mardy

maybe nate doesn't have it, but 2008-09 is gonna be an experiment, and i think he should be given a shot to run the team

Well how about trade Curry, Lee, and Malik Rose for Emeka(S&T), DJ and a 2011 1st rounder.

Thats about 16 mil between NY's three and maybe around 11 mil for Emeka and DJ.

Then Randolph and Nate for Andre Miller, Rodney Carney and a second rounder.

The Cats fill in their 4/5 Spots with Curry and Lee and an expiring Contract, while getting a young point guard.

We then get a back up point guard or a bargaining chip in Andre while getting ride of Z-Bos contract.

So now we addressed our PG of the future needs, our future PF, got rid of contracts without giving up a lot.

^^i said that alot last year. it seems like my boy Nate is working hard and hes shown flashes. I mean he was $ in summer league last year. i say we give himshots to play the point, being that next year will be an experiment year. And he is no doubt talented atching that game vs Portland last year was
sick.gif
he is nice at taking it in he is powerful, farless, explosive, and freakishlyathletic. He also has a nice J, and sick handles he musta made Steve Blake fall on his *!* like 10 x that day. im not saying hes gonna be our PG of the future, but he should be given a shot his explosiveness would exel in D'Anton's offense. and i know theres been talks of us getting Steve Blake when i heardthat i was like what the *!@*? I would much rather have Nate running the point than wack *!* Blake the man he #$!##%* abused last yar. i love Nate'sattitude, he is feaarless, and he works hard to improve. H also has the physical tools and baskeyball skills. He just needs better PG skills. But im rootingfor him.

i dont know. i still hate the pick and i want players who can play D. But i willno doubt be rooting for Danilo. I doubt he will be the player i can want but i will root for him. I like him personality wise, and i want the Knicks to be goodagain. Thats all i really want and although we were given lemons by drafting him i just hope we can turn him into some sweet *!* lemonade.

EDIT:
Well how about trade Curry, Lee, and Malik Rose for Emeka(S&T), DJ and a 2011 1st rounder.
i love that trade but i doubt Charlotte would be down, but you never know. it depends how highly they value Lee cause his value is sky high and ifthey think they can turn curry into a legit starter. But althugh i dont like Emeka cause hes from
conn he would be great for this team and hes a winner as he showed in college, yall know i love DJ, and if we can get a 1st rounder that would be by far thebest Knicks trade in a WHILE

I think if both those trades were to be done, although NY would have a horrible season next year that sets us up for a BRIGHT future.

I think NY should really push Randolph for Miller at the deadline. Miller and Marbury's contracts would be 30 mil coming off the books.

yea, i don't see charlotte trading dj

and i doubt larry brown would want eddy curry back

but you never know, once dudes leave ny, they automatically become rejuvenated

see mcdyess for most recent example

For all the Danillo haters, how many of you have actually seen him play? I don't mean highlights on YouTube, I mean saw an actual game.

If you've never seen him play, then all this hate is generated from what you hear in the media. Your opinion isn't your own, all you did was usesomeone else's thoughts on Danillo and adopted them for your own use. See him play, THEN judge him. That's like if I say 'all white men can shootthe ball really well'. Look at David Lee. His shot got better, but he still can't shoot the rock. At all. Period.

Did I really just read "Chandler > Danilo"?

Come on, y'all. We haven't even seen the dude play yet.

Y'all really overrate Wilson Chandler.
