There is absolutely no reason they deserve that price tag. The situation is similar to the 990s last year--no need for those to be $180 MSRP. And I think most people probably agree with that because almost everyone I know grabbed those with deep discounts. The only pair I paid retail for was the Navys, and a few weeks later I was kicking myself when they could be had for $120-$130ish with ease. That was the last time I paid retail for a GR NB.
IMO, it's a pure money grab by NB. They realize that they're hot right now and that their retro following has grown a TON. So they drop an obscure, never-before-rereleased shoe, jack up the price and hope that people flock. Can't say I blame them, as they're in the business of making money. But $200+? And they didn't even get the OG colorways right? Easy pass.
The worst part is that if GRs are $200, what will collabs cost?
Maybe I'm 100% wrong, but didn't the 990 price have a lot to do with the vibram soles? I don't know anything about the extra costs associated with using them, but it seems like shoes or boots that do tend to be more expensive. 1300jp's come to mind.
