Agreed. I found that both my Nike TTS 8.5 and my Nike TTS 8 fit exactly the same with the J.Crew 998s.

Not really. Try a good quality pair of shoe trees, that will stretch the toebox and a width by a decent amount.
It also gets read of any sweat or funk left behind and imparts a nice cedar smell in your shoes
