Nets asked Celtics about Doc Rivers
Boston Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge was contacted by the Brooklyn Nets, who wanted to speak to Doc Rivers about their vacant coaching position, team and league sources confirmed to ESPNBoston.com.

Ainge, according to those sources, denied the Nets permission to talk with his coach, who has three years and $21 million remaining on his contract.

Reached late Thursday, Ainge refused to comment on the Nets' interest in Rivers and reiterated that he expects him back on the Celtics bench next season.

"Doc has told me he's coming back," Ainge said bluntly. "I talk to him almost every day about our team and what we are going to do moving forward."

The Celtics' unwillingness to allow a competing team to talk to Rivers suggests they expect him to honor the extension he signed on May 11, 2011, which made him among the highest paid coaches in professional sports and one of the top two in the NBA along with the Spurs' Gregg Popovich. At the time Rivers signed that deal, he was asked about the lean years that inevitably would surface as Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen grew older, moved on or retired.

"Well, I don't think anyone is looking forward to [rebuilding]," Rivers said, "but I'm willing to do that. I've had a group that has been very loyal to me, and I think it would have been very easy to just run and go somewhere else and chase something else. ... I just don't think that's the right thing to do. Coaches talk about loyalty and team, and I just thought it was time to show it."

That will not stop the offers from coming. Last season, the Orlando Magic offered Rivers the job of team president, which would have entailed everything from schmoozing with corporate sponsors to running the front office. Though he had previously insisted he had "little to no interest" in running a franchise, the financial windfall and unilateral power that would come with such a position (not to mention the proximity to his home base) gave him some brief pause. Ultimately, Rivers rebuffed the Magic and determined he wasn't done coaching.

Ainge acknowledged late Thursday afternoon that Rivers remains a coveted asset among NBA circles.

"We know people want Doc," Ainge said. "We know people want [Rajon Rondo] and KG and Paul Pierce. They are the Celtics. They've all had great success."

If Rivers decided to go back to the broadcast booth, where he received rave reviews for his work on TNT, the Celtics still would hold his coaching rights for the life of his contract, preventing him from hopping to another team without some negotiated compensation.

Rivers is expected to sit down with his coaching staff, each of whom has an expiring contract, over the weekend.

What are the Nets doing? Plenty of good candidates actually looking for a job...

I was about 9 when I watched that game and it was the first time I really actually saw them lose cause it was when i actually first starting understanding the game and I couldn't believe it. I still remember that play and the punt return that put us in position to tie the game I thought roscoe Parrish was gonna take it to the house but he got stopped. But yea man RIP to Sean if the players these days played with his heart at Miami we wouldn't have a problem being rellevant. still how the most guys in the league tho (:

Ya some of whom havent realized that once you leave UM its illegal to take bounty payments :lol
Roy Hibbert calls out Shane Battier
When the Miami Heat faced the Indiana Pacers in the playoffs last season, the series featured two suspensions, a host of flagrant fouls and plenty of blood. It appears the Eastern Conference finals between the teams already is heating up.

Pacers center Roy Hibbert took to his Twitter account Thursday to accuse Heat forward Shane Battier of dirty play in the Heat's 103-102 Game 1 overtime victory on Wednesday night.

In the first quarter, Battier drove to the rim, extended his knee and made contact with Hibbert's groin area when the Pacers' center attempted to challenge the shot. Officials called Battier for an offensive foul on the play as Hibbert ended up on the floor.

"U can knee or kick me every time u drive 2the rim. I'll be there 2protect the rim. That wasn't inadvertent. Battier knew what he was doing," Hibbert wrote on Twitter.

Several Pacers were upset with Battier by the end of the game. He got into several minor scuffles, especially with Tyler Hansbrough. Battier and Hansbrough wrestled for the ball in the first half, and it ultimately led to a technical foul on the Heat's Chris Andersen when he came over and appeared to push Hansbrough away from Battier.

In the second half, Battier appeared to throw an elbow at Hansbrough as the two went for a rebound. Hansbrough was called for a foul on the play. The Pacers also were upset by an offensive foul called on Heat guard Norris Cole in the fourth quarter when Cole swung his arm between Pacers forward David West's legs.

Last season, Pacers coach Frank Vogel was fined $15,000 by the NBA after saying officials let the Heat get away with flopping. Battier, one of the league leaders in drawing offensive fouls, has been accused of flopping routinely in the past.

man, i hate myself for engaging in this, but i'm to curious to lurk as always. based of the videos i saw, which these two screenshots came from, didn't he travel? or am i missing something? it looks like the ball didn't leave his left hand before releasing his pivot, i looked at 3 other angles and couldn't find anything that convinced me otherwise. but since only the bron haters are yelling for travel im guessing theres something im missing

IF you consider him moving while receiving the ball it doesn't matter as Allen said, he gets to gather anyway.

IF you consider him stationary when he changes direction, it still isn't because he's putting the ball down as he takes that first step.

Well, two candidates they really want to look at, Lionel Hollins and Brian Shaw, are still in the playoffs. Signing someone before looking at those two damn good candidates wouldn't be smart. Outside of those two, Jerry Sloan is probably in the running. Don't think anyone outside of those 3 are serious candidates so far. I hear good things about one of Memphis' assistants and one of the Spurs top assistants. Phil Jackson is probably likely to get contacted for a front office role if we agree to get Shaw. PJ/Shaw can be our Riley/Spoelstra.

Lol we haven't been caught with anything yet NCAA got nothing but a bunch of accusations by a ponzi scammer but I know what your taking about with vilma and his bountys for the saints lmao

RISE OKLAHOMA

Nike stands with Kevin Durant to support the victims of the Oklahoma tornadoes. $1M worth of Nike products will be donated to those affected by the storms, and the profits from Oklahoma City KD V Elites sold on Nike.com between May 23 and June 15 will go towards Oklahoma Relief efforts.

No ref is calling that in game speed.
definitely, took me 3 angles to catch it. plus what bron did is common practice from what i've seen.

good looking out fam , but in the last if, are you saying that the motion of putting the ball down is sufficient enough?

i understand that this may just be another example of when correlation does not imply causation. but the best thing about durants donation is that it may have trigged more donations

@ the LeBron/Cell comparison.

So if LeBron is Cell could Tony Parker potentially be Gohan?

Do we have any Oklahoma NT'ers on here?

Prayers to them. Durant :hat

Me and 3 others that I know of. I PM'd them and they said they were good, except one dude's roof got blown off. I don't know if they want me putting their names out. I live an hour from where everything happened, haven't been down yet but am going Saturday. On last count from what I've heard, and if anyone else has stepped up in the last 2 days I missed it, we're at $14,500,000 plus Perkins' $25,000 towards putting shelters in schools.

Chill TP isnt a monumental disappointment who takes the L whenever he has the upperhand, nor does TP always need someone to come bail him out.

Had Cell on the ropes let his dad get killed

Had to get bailed out by Goku when he was fighting Bojack

Fought Broly when he was an adult and for some inexplicable reason never thought about going Super Saiyan 2 and caught the beats and had to get bailed out by Goku

Gohan Vs. Super Buu, the worst one of them all, at that point I wanted him to die. Disgusting

cant believe dude used to be my favorite

Tony Parker would be Future Trunks

Kobes obviously Vegeta though. Hard work nonstop trying to chase down Jordan(Goku)

Durant just showing up is good enough...no one is asking him to donate cash, but him doing that is major love.

Good guy

R.I.P to those innocent victims
