No it's a smart move by Mitch Kupchak & Dr. Buss. Why pay now for him when after this season Lakers can match any offer from another team.The Lakers are already over the salary cap also and paying the luxury tax. The have Brown under contract for possibly 2 more years since his 2nd year is a teamoption. Also next summer DFish contract is up and he's already said he isn't going to retire.

Bottom line is Lakers next year will have to decide if they want to give the mid level exception to Farmar or Fisher. I seriously don't think any otherteam in the league right now views Farmar as a starting PG in the league. But I wouldn't be surprised if Golden State ends over paying him and gives him afat contract like they did with DFish & Turiaf
