Kevin Durant's seventh signature shoe brought back the midsole strap from the KD II and KD IV, a feature that many fans of the line were happy to see and that Durant himself requested[sup]1[/sup]. Nike continued the overall "weather" theme that has become a staple of the KD line. A successful follow-up to the very popular KD VI was very important to keep the momentum of the line going strong.
The construction of the shoe brought some previously unused materials to a KD signature shoe. For the first time, Hyperposite is used on the heel area for extra strength while the front of the shoe is made of mesh and dynamic Flywire.
The names of KD's family members are imprinted on the underside of the strap. Wanda (his mother), Tony (his brother), Barbara (his grandmother) and Wayne (his father) are all listed. On the outsole, KD's home state of Maryland is visible. If you look closely enough, you'll see that KD's number 35 imprinted on the strap is made up of 5 number 7's (5x7=35!).
The base price of the KD VII was $150, with limited colorways being marked up to $170. Again, fans have voiced their complaints with the ever-increasing price of KD's signature shoes.
Like the KD VI, the KD VII received a unique branded box to set it apart from other Nike basketball shoes. Weather patterns were used on a blue and grey box.
The KD VII was unveiled June 25, 2014 at the Newseum in Washington, D.C. with host Ahmad Rashad talking to KD and Leo Chang about the shoe and answering some fan questions.
