I dont understand why my TV doesn't work with HDMI cables when it has 2 outputs on back, I'm using 5 component cables with my HD cable box.

Its a Samsung 42" 1080p HDTV (got it 2 years ago).

Does the HDMI work at all? Like do you have something else like a 360 to hook up to the ports and try? It could be a number of issues... Bad HDMI cable,bad HDMI port on TV, or bad HDMI port on the cable box...

Hmmm. I tried it with the cable box and I don't remember if it was the cable company or Samsung that told me it wasn't compatible with HDMI (mostlikely the cable box).

I'll try it with the X-Box soon as the Mets game is over (Castillo 2 run bomb lolz).

-Panny was a lil Pricey back when I got it but Ive had it for sometime now (wow 2.5 yrs and no burn in)
-the LG Ive had for almost a yr now and I got that at the homie hook up so it was a must have

-Honestly, Im liking the LG's picture better than the Panny I'll reserve judgement til another yr passes and see if its holding up like the Panny.
- I dont have any wall mounted but I plan on going a head with putting the Panny up
-I tried the Panny in my bedroom but seriously, it gives off waay too much heat, like u think im kidding but my room had to be like 5 degrees hotter with thatthing in there. Plus Im upstairs in Florida, Not a good combination.
During football season my electric bill is thru the Roof

Im looking for a decent 30 - 37 in LCD for my Bedroom, Rite now, Im leaning towards a Samsung.
any suggestions on models ?


That Logitech Remote looks like something I need... is that over $150? cuz I cant see myself spendin that much on a remote

Hopefully I finally get an HD tv in my next paycheck.
I got probably 600 to spend...I know not much but I just want a new TV in HD already just for my room/gaming.
Any ideas what's good...Vizio 32"?

The remote is well worth it. MSRP for $250. Think of it like this what the remote will do > some $300 crap JB pack.

And Plasmas consume more electricity than an LCD so Plasma bills > LCD bills.

EDIT: I'll give you an example the with the remote I now got rid of 6 remotes. With a press of a button my tv will turn, receiver, switch to the properinputs and all i have to do is get comfy. Best of all the setup is easy as hell.

JVC and Vizio are your friend my friend

I changed my mind, JVC > Vizio quality wise. Don't sleep on them. They make great cameras and camcorders, and their TV's are nice too.
I wouldn't spend over $1,000 on that size of a TV. Most Sony's, Samsung's, and Sharp's at those sizes start around $900 and up.

I have a 37" 1080p JVC in my bedroom now. The 47" Vizio is in the living room. My 360 is hooked up to the JVC and it's awesome! The JVC is anenergy saver too, only uses about 160w with the settings I have. That = less heat as well

And Check out Target for cheap 30-37 LCDs. They carry sony, olevia (underrated and > vizio crap), philips, and samsung.

^If you dont mind the older series of Harmony remotes they can be had for as low as $50 on amazon. THe Harmony One retails for $250 because it'sLogitech's latest offering debuting during the Superbowl. The old ones work just as well minus touch color screen, button placement, and ergo look.

So besides the quality(720p)... What else should I look for in buying a TV, like contrast... I have my eye on the VIZIO VO32L... Its going for $600... Is thata good deal?

Contrast Ratio: 1100:1 (Typical), 5500:1 (w/DCR)

Can someone explain what DCR means, and how much of a difference... Sorry for all the questions

I would stay away from any Vizio TVs.

I want a Samsung - LN52A650 or Sony - Bravia KDL-52W4100. IMO there there best lcd tv for the price this year.

i have a 720p 50 inch panasonic but parents won't let me hook up ps3 to it, sayin it will burn the tv, i keep tellin them the ps3 is made for hd tv's,as long as i dont pause the game and walk away tv should be fine, i decided i am just gonna go buy my own 36-42inch

Vizio isn't bad if you just want to watch a few things in HD and play in HD. DCR is dynamic contrast ratio. It's a way of companies to throw bignumbers at you and try to make you think it's worth the price. I don't put a lot of thought into contrast ratios. As long as a TV has a good overallpicture with the features I want, I could careless about this number. A lot of you that have known me and my posts know that I don't feel too highly oncontrast ratios. Good luck! Save money and buy that Vizio and put the money you save towards a bigger one later on down the road.

Im just going to be using it mostly for the xbox and PC... TV will be on occasions... So if contrast really doesnt matter... What else is there to makesure i get a good TV?

Well I just have a simple question:

I have a 27'' Westinghouse, I just got Direct TV, and my signal is very blurry - its really hard to watch.

I've been told RCA cables will fix this right up? Is this true, can anyone point me to some cheap / reliable cables that will make my image look crisp?

i have owned a 42 westinghouse 1080p for 2 years and just recetly bought a samsung 37a550 1080p. Samsung is

and it only has 15000:1 contrast ratio, especially when i watch blu rays on mysamung duo pro blu ray.hd dvd player. i would recommend samsung over sony any day, far better quality and far better price. next lcd hdtv on my list is thesamsung LN-T5281F or LN-T5781F for the game room. also, be careful with dynamic contrast ratio vs contrast ratio. be sure and ask what the actual contrastratio is. dcr is actually < than the actual contrast ratio.

Enh. I just got my 56 inch Samsung DLP 6 Series and SD content is fine on it. I was worried about getting a TV that big with Comcast cable cuztheir HD channel lineup isn't that extensive but the SD channels look fine. Besides all I watch are the HD channels anyway.

I wanted the Samsung LN52A650 but size/price is much better on rear projection displays and I had to go big (nh). Trust me, I wanted that LCD bad after seeingthat 120hz in action, but even more I wanted a BIG tv while still being able to afford a nice wood stand and a home theater system to go with it. So with thatsaid, I'm MORE than happy with my purchase. Here's my new toy. My stand hasn't come in yet so it's sitting on my old stand that was for a 32inch tv. I know, I'm hood.

Anyway:







Pics with the flash make the color look washed out but it looks perfect in person. As you can see from the last pic, my viewing distance is about 12 ft so 56in is JUST right. I coulda went with the 61 in but my wife swore up and down it would be too big.

You guys really need to do some research... 1080p is better then a 1080i ("p" for progressive scan and "i" for interlaced). If you get aplasma plan on a getting a new one when you get tired of the decreasing picture quality. From wikipedia, "The lifetime of the latest generation of plasmadisplays is estimated at 60,000 hours of actual display time, or 27 years at 6 hours per day. This is the estimated time over which maximum picture brightnessdegrades to half the original value, not catastrophic failure." You get the point. LCD 1080p FTW

I'm plannin on upgrading my TV before I notice any decrease in quality...

What's it gonna take? 8 years? Will I even notice if the display is slightly dimmer?
