Lets get the draft recap popping.
Round 1 (Pick 32

)

Derek Sherrod, OT, Mississippi State

Height: 6'5 3/8 Weight: 321 Arm: 35 3/8" Hand: 11"
40: 5.18 (5.27 pro) 10: 1.81 (1.84 pro) 20: 3.01 (3.06)
Reps: 23 Vertical: 28" Broad Jump: 8'1"
Shuttle: 4.63 Cone: 7.43

Pass blocking: Good initial quickness. Eases out of his stance and has the lateral agility and balance to mirror the defender. Good hand strength and has long arms that he uses to latch onto and control his opponent. Generally plays with good knee-bend and leverage, but can lose his anchor when he tires. Can become fundamentally lazy and lean into the defender; gets knocked off-balance and gives up the inside lane. Should improve in this area with greater focus on his technique, but has an upside-down triangle build due to broad shoulders and relatively narrow hips, making him top-heavy and susceptible to being overpowered. Among his better attributes is his recognition. Recognizes the blitz coming and gets a good initial pop on his primary target (defensive end) before passing him off to the guard and working his way outside to catch the rushing linebacker or stunting defensive tackle.

Run blocking: Comes off the ball too high and lacks the pad level and power to consistently knock defenders off the line. Good quickness and hand strength to turn and seal off defenders from the play. Good recognition to release from double-team and get out to the second level. Scouts would like to see him finish blocks with more authority before releasing.

Pulling/trapping: Good initial quickness to release to the second level, but has only average agility to re-direct in the open field. Locates his target, but has to do a better job of anticipating where the defender is going. Isn't fluid enough to change direction and hit the moving target. Too often extends his arms, "catching" the linebacker, which could result in penalty flags when playing against NFL-caliber athletes. Good trap blocker due to his initial quickness, big frame and recognition.

Initial Quickness: Good, though not elite, initial quickness off the snap. Has the agility and long arms to handle most right defensive ends (and thus remain at left tackle), but due to the fact that he is a bit top-heavy and lacks elite balance, is susceptible to quick jab-steps outside and spin or counter moves back to the inside. Is quick enough in the running game to turn and seal off the defender, creating a wall from which the running back can bounce off from.

Downfield: Gives good effort to block downfield. Above-average straight-line speed, though his average balance keeps him from being as effective at the second level as his speed and size would indicate. Gets in the way of defenders and has the wingspan to alter their path, but struggles re-directing his charge.

Intangibles: Was one of 16 players to win the storied National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame (NFF) Award, which includes a post-graduate $18,000 scholarship. Earned his degree in business with a 3.54 GPA. Is the third Bulldog to win the award and the first since 1989. Team leader voted a captain in 2010. A four-year member of the M-Club, MSU's student-athlete community service organization, he has spent considerable time with the youth of Mississippi. He has served breakfast at Sudduth Elementary School, participated in Sudduth's Kids Fair and read to local students to promote literacy. He has also organized a Thanksgiving food drive.

Great pick for us... Bulaga and Sherrod look like they can provide OT reliability for Rodgers until 2020 once they get settled into their roles and Cliffy finally steps out.

64th Overall pick, Randall Cobb, WR, UK.

201103081829665653147-p2.jpeg

Height: 5'10 1/4 Weight: 191 Arm: 31 Hand: 9 3/8
40: 4.46 10: 1.56 20: 2.53
Reps: 16 Vertical: 33.5" Broad Jump: 9'7"
Shuttle: 4.34 Cone: 7.08

Release: Extremely quick first step off the snap. Strong and physical enough to beat the press, but more likely to use quickness and elusiveness to escape coverage. Played in the slot and/or was in motion a lot. Very good at getting open quickly with cuts and burst.

Hands: Soft, natural hands are used to snatch the ball away from the body. Very few drops, even counting the two short ones over the middle vs. Pitt in the Compass Bowl from the backup quarterback. Adjusts well to the ball. Caught the ball in traffic a lot and almost always held on. Will hold onto the ball while taking a big hit. Secures the ball well and rarely puts it on the ground. Can be counted on to field punts and kickoffs cleanly. Holds for field-goal attempts.

Route running: Excellent, disciplined route running originates from being a former quarterback, knowing what happens when the route is not run correctly. Crisp, sharp cuts and turns. Breaks tackles and gets YAC consistently. Student of the game prides himself on not making mental errors. Not a true blazer, but fast enough, very shifty and tends to get separation consistently.

Blocking: Small frame limits the benefits of quality technique and effort. Will sacrifice body against larger defenders. Good knee bend, extension of arms and hand placement. True team player gives all in every assignment.

Intangibles: Dedicated to football. Puts in outstanding effort, leads by example and never takes a play off. Leader off the field, participating in a wide variety of community and charity causes. Honor Roll student in high school. Does the small things well, such as being a reliable holder for field goals. Received high praise from coaches. While Cobb missed a couple of games early in his career with minor injuries, he produced consistently during a healthy 2010 season.

Cobb is a great pick for us.  Possibly the most dynamic WR in the draft... Hell be our returner from the jump and is head and shoulders better than anyone else on the roster at returning currently. and fits in beautifullllllyyyyy as a slot WR.

-Jennings takes the top of defenses with his deep ability
-Jermichael back healthy again
sick.gif

-Jordy Possession
-Cobb probably has a more explosive first step than GJ and is a Slot beast!
-Driver - somewhere past the first down marker doing his shake/yell
Cobb: "Right now I'm trying to get ahold of Rodgers. I want to be whereever he is as soon as possible."

Love the draft so far.  I think with the Cobb and Green picks we can say bye to Jame Jones and Brandon Jackson.  Like JJ and Jackson but both expendable,  JJ because of the drops and Jackson since he's only a 3rd down back.
That'd be awesome if Cobb can be a great returner, we lacked that big time this season.

Man Ted is such a beast.  Hopefully him and his group draft for the Packers until he dies.

Looks like Cobb wore one of those e39 UA shirts at the combine... I wonder if theres a database of info that they have for the players that used those shirts.

Yeah we gotta beef up that DL and add some depth.  I'd rather address the DL than OLB, I mean we do have Walden, Zombo, and Jones across from Matthews.

3rd round, 96th overall pick: Alex Green RB, Hawaii

alex_green_jedi.jpg

Positives: Big, tough, physical cut-and-go back with a knack for lowering his shoulder and creating contact. Decisive, hard runner who knows where he's going as soon as he gets the ball. Reaches top speed quickly with a quick first step and strong initial burst toward the hole. Keeps his weight forward and feet churning, rarely falling back or losing yardage. Quick feet for a back of his size. Willingly engages defenders along the sideline to earn the extra yard rather than stepping out of bounds. Soft, reliable hands as a pass-catcher. Displays good balance and body control, extending his arms to catch balls thrown outside of his upper torso. Nice concentration to secure passes in the flat before looking upfield. Isn't afraid to take on defensive linemen in pass protection and maintains route accuracy through contact from linebackers when running routes in the flat.

Negatives: One-dimensional, straight-ahead runner who lacks vision and recognition to cutback and extend runs. Too willing to initiate contact in one-on-one situations, often lowering his shoulder when he has the space to elude tackler laterally. Leans too far forward at times and will lower his head prematurely, rendering him off balance. Short, quick steps and low knees leave him vulnerable to arm tackles below the waist, and easier to bring down than his size would indicate he should be. A one-speed back, lacking a top gear to pull away from second-level defenders. Lacks patience to allow holes to develop, often outrunning his blockers.
More weapons added before the weekend.

Onto the defense...

Round 4, 131 overall pick: Davon House, CB, New Mexico State

davon-house.jpg

Height: 6'0 1/2 Weight: 200 Arm: 31 7/8" Hand: 9 1/2"
40: 4.44 10: 1.52 20: 2.50
Reps: 13 Vertical: 33.5" Broad Jump: 9'1"
Shuttle: 4.12 Cone: 6.65

Read & React: Has adequate reaction time and instincts on the outside. Explodes into ballcarriers on outside runs but can also be a step late supporting against the run or stopping his pedal to get to receivers on stop routes. Maintains contact with his man on misdirection plays; can recover from double moves quickly. Very good hand-eye reaction time to pick off bobbled passes and knock away passes at the last second.

Man Coverage: His best asset, as he uses his size, speed and length to adeptly handle outside responsibilities in man coverage. Good backpedal and quick feet to wait until his man makes a move inside or outside. Runs with any receiver down the sideline and maintains contact to prevent separation. Tight coverage forces quarterbacks to often go in another direction or take a sack. Good ball skills; times his jumps well if quarterbacks test him deep and looks to return the ball as far as possible after making a pick.

Zone Coverage: Plays a lot of man coverage but shows promise as a productive NFL zone corner. Solid tackler who can plant and drive to stop receivers after the catch and support the run when playing off the line. Stays cognizant of the quarterback in the end zone, will come off his man to make a play on the ball. Must prove he has the discipline to come off receivers leaving his area so quarterbacks don't throw behind him into the vacated area.

Closing/Recovery: Closes on the ball very well whether it is in the air or he's bringing down receivers to prevent yards after catch. Is sometimes turned around by double moves or outside-in head fakes, but recovers quickly to get back into the play. Time his jumps well when going up for the ball. Needs to tighten up his steps when transitioning forward from his pedal.

Run Support: Looks the part of a physical corner who will get the job done in run support. Flashes the ability to stay low and square to wrap up elusive ballcarriers in the flat. Gets outside angle on receiver to force plays inside, and can rip off blocks with his long arms, but must have more consistent urgency to get to the ball. Will stand around piles instead of inserting himself.

Tackling: Effective as a wrap and cut tackler against receivers and running backs. Generally gets the thighs of ballcarriers on cut tackles to bring him them down. Willing to lower a shoulder to hit a back, even if it's a bit late. Impressive chasing to the opposite side of the field, using his speed and the angle to track them down before they reach the end zone. Also capable of chasing down running backs from behind if they get outside him to the sideline.

Intangibles: Coaches have no issues with his work ethic. Has gained bulk in the weight room during his time at NMSU. Did not play football until his junior year of high school, focused on baseball before that. Hasn't missed a game in his Aggies career.
