Doesn't need to justify his decision to anyone but he's spot on. It really doesn't stop year round for top players especially in the major tourney years. The rate of action and matches has to be grueling on your body.
He's also had a well decorated career for France too, almost 100 caps, where he's won just about everything already, no need to continue if he wants to rest during international breaks now.
