OFFICIAL EV THREAD VOL: GAS IS IN THE PAST

I feel like car maintenance gets blown out of proportion.

Anything major you’re still doing on an EV. Brakes probably even more often because they weigh a million pounds, wheel bearings, suspension etc, not like your average Tesla is keeping it long enough to matter though.

When I had my model S the brakes were fine. Tires would go fast though and it adds up quick.

We are so far away from hydrogen cars in the mass market. Cost per mile is currently 2-3x higher than gas and hybrid cars. And the truly zero emission green hydrogen makes up less than 1% of total production.

It’ll take decades for the FCV market to mature to the level of the BEV market today. And even that’s being highly optimistic.

We are. But when we eventually get there, I think it will replace batteries.

Was at the dealership for service on the X3M today and got a chance to test drive the i5 M60. Went into it not expecting to like it, but man…BMW knocked it out the park. Other than the obvious torque, it handled pretty damn good for a heavy *** car. Def on my radar now.

Also, anything Tesla is def off my radar. Joints feel like toys compared to the interior and driving mechanics of the m60.

for certain people ev is cool, I don't think it will ever be the majority of cars on the road though.

I'd get a hybrid but an ev is a definite no go for me.

No it's not a fad. It really depends on where you live. If you live in California the state laws and emissions are pushing and leading the way for EV's with the mandate set for 2035. That's not a whole US Federal mandate for the US. Also for California residents the move to EV's just is appealing when gas prices out here constantly are $5 or more out here.

Elon and Tesla just got a head start and a boost by Biden with the $7500 federal tax rebate program.

Toyota is the slowest adopter for full EV's because they were one of the first big car manufactures behind hybrid car technology. That's a big reason why you don't see Toyota really going in and pushing EV's right now.

Picked this up just this past Monday. Really loving it so far. I got the touring trim model. I went from a 2020 Accord Hybrid EX. The main reason why I made the move was I wanted to go back to a SUV. Even with a hybrid I was still filling up on average 4 times a month and paying about $150 to $200 for gas. That was while averaging 36 miles per gallon on the accord hybrid.

The numbers and incentives I got were good also for me trading in my Accord hybrid towards the Prologue. Honda gave 8K through Honda financial services to match the federal tax rebate since this car does not qualify for the US federal tax rebate. They paid off the 8K I still owed on Accord hybrid. I put zero money down. My monthly car payment only went up $40 more from what I was paying on my Accord hybrid. I got a $750 pre paid gas card from Honda to use at charging stations.

Also yeah I know this is a first year model for this EV SUV and that it was a colab design between Honda and Chevy.

Charging for me is not a problem even without a home charging kit. Where I work has charging stations which even with a slower charge I don't mind at all since the charge rate is 17 cents per kilowatt and the car is charging for 6 to 8 hours while I work.

Bottom line is Tesla never appealed to me during the last 5 years. The interior and exterior looks on model 3 or model y where just meh and felt cheap after test driving and even renting one while on vacation. Also I hate Elon Musk
