Official DragonBall Z Thread. R.I.P Akira Toriyama. You will be missed

In light of his passing, I wonder how Toriyama-San felt about his creation continuing post DBZ?

I would love if there were two animated series, the manga, occasional movies and the video games.

I know he wasn't really involved with GT, but heavily involved with the movies, which ultimately became Super.

He doesn't draw Super, but still was writing the stories/creating characters/etc.

Given he wanted to end DB after the Cell Saga but kept having to bring it back multiple times - then GT was made - until he was just writing for Super he’s realized the show is such a cultural phenomenon that it will always continue in some shape or form.

I just wish he was able to guide some of his other works back in to publication either through manga, anime/movies, and video games.

For example, I still want me a Future Trunks anime/manga. Also I know most just see it as an early DB prototype but I feel he could’ve done something new with Dragonboy.

I’m sure some of that stuff may find its way back with new material just without his supervision.

I don’t know much about him personally. But I hope his family is compensated for his amazing contributions to Anime/Manga/geek culture.

I’ve been aware, but RIP to the legend.

DBZ is one of my favorite all time shows ever, Vegeta being my favorite character, and just overall I guess the only true anime I’ve ever enjoyed.

Makes me want to watch DBZ Super and play Blue Dragon someday.

Japan should be the only place for that imo. Especially when it comes to the food from DB. But at least somebody’s paying homage so salute.

I'm wondering if this park is an official collaboration or is it going to turn into another Action Park down the line.

This is the best fight of DBZ/Super/GT. There is so much going on here. Goku knew he was going to lose from it started. You can see it, he's really on the ropes the entire time and he is trying for real, and Cell isn't. Cell is not trying as hard as he could cause he wanted to fight Goku more than anyone else, and purposely delays the end. The animation was fire. The Warp Kamehameha was fire. Cell busting out everyone's moves was fire. Everyones expectations from Gohan (is stronger than Goku and doesn't know it), Vegeta (is weaker than Goku and knows it. Trunks couldn't understand why Goku was so confident, but Goku knew, and knew it while he was losing the whole time that Gohan was gonna beat Cell.

IDK if anything can touch it.

Dragonball needs more hand to hand stuff, Thats why the Broly movie was so good, there was a lot of that.

Let me preface this by saying that I only count 4 sagas in DBZ (Saiyan, Frieza, Cell, Buu)

The fight posted is amazing and you might be right that it's the overall best, but overall the Cell Saga has the best fights in the Series.

18 vs. Vegeta
Piccolo vs. 17 (my personal favorite)
Cell vs. Vegeta
Cell vs. Trunks
Cell vs. Goku

I would say the next best era of fights in all of Dragon Ball post Z would probably be the Zamasu Saga. I don't count the movies because they always deliver on fights. Broly vs. Gohan in the 2nd Broly movie and Metal Cooler fights are probably my two favorite from the films.

The only I issue I have with the English Dubb is the forced lines, where in the Japanese it was more suspenseful with the silence.

Like that part where Goku goes USSJ. In Japanese, he just stood up and Gohan looked to see what was going on.

Same with that Gohan going SSJ2. All he said was "father" and they don't even have the excuse of needing to fill in his mouth movements.

Animation and fight choreography in dead zone was amazing. Crazy that this is 30 years old, and we got worse **** today.

Big part of me misses the Dragon Ball, where actual martial arts was the focus, and less on energy/power boosts and all that ****. But it makes sense on the power scale they scaled up to now, but I miss this

I remember recording Dead Zone, World's Strongest and Tree of Might on VHS. I could watch those 3 time and time again.

And no disrespect to Sean Schemmel, but the Ocean dub for these 3 is how I'll always remember them.

Goku's Kaioken when he breaks out of the ice > *

Yup the OG dub voice actor was incredible from the movies. This is what got me into DBZ, hate that they re-dubbed em again and it didn’t hit the same.

Idk which version/language dub I was watching. The announcer during this transformation scene was sounding like a soccer match.
