Official DragonBall Z Thread. R.I.P Akira Toriyama. You will be missed

Yeah, but then I don't get why it isn't referring to strength. They both have godly ki, which is apparently higher than normal ki, so everyone without it should logically be weaker. What's more, beerus destroys planets, the Kai's create planets. Like I don't get why there should be such a massive difference in strength at all. (Because the Basic Kai's seem to be weaker than frieza was back on namek)
godly kai isnt stronger than normal kai, its just different. you dont need godly kai to beat someone with godly kai you just need it to sense someone with godly kai. it just so happens that the kais currently present are very strong but keep in mind that their were once more powerful kais in the past. the one that majin buu absorbed was far stronger than whats around now. as the series goes on im sure we'll find out more and theyll expand on it. for all we know their could be more kais that we dont even know about yet. this is still new territory keep in mind. 2 movies and 4 episodes isnt nearly enough time to expand on these things

Implication definitely seems to be that godly ki is just more powerful, hence it being outside the realm of normal ki to sense at all, and goku needing to become a god and gain it to compete with beerus. And that still doesn't solve the issue of beerus in comparison to the other Kai's. It's again one guy that destroys planets, at the end of the day no different than what people have been capable of for years, and another group that actually creates planets. Yet the latter group is freaking out over it.

I expect with another God of destruction appearing that we'll learn more, but right now it just doesn't make sense.

remember vegeta landing that punch on to beerus after he hit bulma? the entire ending of the goku vs beerus fight was done outside of god mode. freiza didnt have god ki and fought at "god level" strength. safe to say that golden freiza is stronger than base super sayain god form. initially yes when we first heard about god ki it seemed stronger but with what we know now, having it doesnt necessarily make you stronger.

and like i said its too early to tell at this point. we know that kais create planets but we dont know if the kais we were introduced to are the ones that do it. their could be an entirely different class of kais that hasnt been itroduced yet, thats responsible for that. hell it could even be whis for all we know (not likely).

I don't think either Vegeta or Frieza discount the idea that God Ki>Regular Ki. Frieza is an acknowledged genius, beyond that of anything else we've ever seen in this series. He's just special, plain and simple. Vegeta then scored a hit, but didn't actually surpass Beerus. And all either really shows is that regular ki can still compete with God ki in some instances. Basically its akin to Sacred Energy from Yu Yu Hakusho. Sacred Energy is better in every way, but people without it can still fight those with it.

In terms of Goku, he was a normal Super Saiyan, but he'd internalized the God ki from SSG by that point. Which again shows the difference between the two ki's, as before having it SS3 Goku couldn't even touch Beerus, but after gaining it SS1 Goku could

And I already agreed. We might very well learn more down the line. Right now, based off current information, it makes little sense.

i guess it all depends on perception/interpretation. To me, it seems that the determining factor has everything to do with the ki wielder and not the specific ki itself. super sayain 3 goku wast able to land a hit on beerus, but super sayain vegeta was. I thought that goku kept the power up as like a side effect of achieving that form. like reaching that level made his base form stronger not necessarily changing the ki itself. based on your interpretation of what happened with goku then why is it that he didnt turn into a super sayain SSG like in the latest movie? do we even have it confirmed that whis is a god? everyone seems to know who bills is but no one has any prior existence of whis. bottom line there just isnt enough material to draw that conclusion in my opinion. freiza did it and theres no reason to believe that every enemy that poses a threat from here on out is going to be a god.

keep in mind that before bills and SSG. every kai up to this point is weaker than all of the sayains and piccolo.

I think it's a little bit of both. But that if you take Goku and Vegeta, put them at SS1 and then give one God Ki, the person with God ki is going to be the stronger.

Goku kept the God Ki (And Vegeta then did the same before Resurrection) but hadn't actually mastered its use. Hence him then being able to use SSGSS in the next film, after he's trained, without even needing another ritual for him to use SSG (And the same with Vegeta). Which is why afterwards Goku and Vegeta are now classified as being Saiyans Beyond God.

And it comes straight from an interview with Akira

I think you’ll understand if you watch [the movie], but Goku has already absorbed [Super Saiyan] God’s power and made it his own, so there is no need for him to transform into [Super Saiyan] God.

Naah there's no confirmation what Whis is besides Beerus trainer, and that he's stronger. However, he IS able to sense God Ki.

I'm not saying every enemy will be a god, but i'm once more saying that Frieza being able to do it doesn't mean that God Ki isn't still superior to regular Ki. Give Frieza God Ki and he'd be even stronger than he is already.

i guess our disconnect is that i didnt/dont equate absorbing the power as keeping the ki, just keeping the power boost if that makes sense. in the end we'll just have to wait and see how they decide to expand on this concept to see for sure. it just seems that new users of godly ki seem to be stronger AND possess godly ki, but as of now we dont know if they are stronger BECAUSE of it.

By my interpretation, goku's definitely stronger at the end of the film because he now has godly ki, as that's literally the only change he's gone through.

you could also make the argument that attaining god ki is a bi product of the transformation, and the transformation is what made him stronger. just like all of his other transformations.

King Kai's voice actor is straight booty cheeks. How can the character be yelling and you don't change your tone whatsoever? :lol

They brought back the original King Kai voice actor, who is now like 83. Respectable move, but I agree that he's not doing a very good job.

It is a result of the transformation, and it sticking around in his body afterwards is what led to him being stronger in all of his previous forms. It's akin to if he retained the power of his SS3 in his base mode after he unlocked it.

YUP my thoughts exactly.

warning this is gonna be a long post but lots of interesting stuff in here i promise

Just watched the movie in theaters, in english. First i want to say that i loved it. maybe i wasnt disappointed because i saw most of it on youtube and looked up pretty much everything that has to do with the movie, maybe i was a little less closed minded because  i know its just a small piece of the dragon ball super story, or maybe im just not as pessimistic as most of NT

but boy seeing it on the big screen def does DBZ justice. And watching it in English definitely lets you catch details that you really miss. You can definitely tell that gaps were intentionally left in this movie for Super to fill

Ive got a couple points/observations/speculation i want to make after seeing the movie. most of it is based on dialogue of the characters.

first thing is im almost positive that whis is not a god, nor does he have god ki. reasoning being is that in conversations between whis and beerus, beerus emphasizes the fact that he is a god. and he is the deity of the two. never once mentioning whether or not whis has any godly aspects at all. whis is an entirely different race/being from this god talk

My biggest observation/speculation of the movie though is that i dont believe that the form that goku and vegeta took in that movie is stronger than the super sayaian god form we saw in the movie BOG. ive got a couple reasons for believing that. through out the entire movie whis and beerus talk about how strong goku and vegeta have gotten and they emphasize on how strong and unstoppable they would be if they worked together. beerus/whis stated a couple of times that if they worked together they could easily over come freiza, and whis even said that if they worked together they could even beat beerus. and goku and vegeta both said they tried that already and would hate to do it again (fusion reference/forshadowing????)

Now, if i recall correctly in BoG it was stated that SSG goku was about 80% of beerus right? well if this transformation was superior goku would be gain a power boost far greater than the 20% needed to match beerus other wise it wouldnt be much of a transformation. another thing that makes lean towards that is because both vegeta and goku describe that form as "tapping into the power of a god" or something along those lines and trained to access the power powers of a god. meaning at some point in the gap between movies learned to access a PORTION of the power of a SSG. kinda like in naruto. its powerful and can be accessed without the whole ritual thing but it isnt the full SSG form we saw, and thats probably shows the difference in appearance and why goku and vegeta have to go super sayain in order to amplify ithe power.

also in the movie it beerus complain about the fact that goku and vegeta have been traveling back and forth from earth to his planet making a lot of noise while training with whis, during the convo goku tells beerus that he has to keep contacting whis to transport him and vegeta to that planet because he cant sense beerus's ki. (With out even mentioning whether or not he can sense whis's ki at all)  which again leads to believe they arent in SSG form. or have full/any use of godly ki

and thats pretty much it. still no explanation as to why gohan is so weak or what the hell whis is. but im almost certain we're gonna be introduced to fusion again from how often they hinted at it. Anyone else see the movie in theaters?
