Not everyone wants to be a social activist though.

It's unfair of us to ask every person who becomes Rich and famous to be as transcendent and influential on the community as some have been. His first priority is to be an entertainer. His next priority is the be the biggest comic around the world. He clearly says that.

He wants his next special to gross 100 million. He's not being fake about it.

Some people are meant to entertain, as some people are meant to play ball, and some are meant to be our doctors, firefighters, etc.

Everyone has a different purpose. Just because theirs a microphone in front of his face doesn't mean he should always be expected to say something revolutionary.

He gives back to the community, he tries to help young people have a path to success. He does his share of good will and charity. That's already generous enough.

To say that he MUST speak about social issues bluntly or else he's not using his platform correctly is just plain greedy and hypocritical.

Why don't WE use the social media platform available to us today to go out there and support causes and bring attention to the causes we want awareness for? Why do we expect and want celebrities or entertainers to but their livelihood at stake and speak up for all of us?

The ones who want to do, Clooney, Pitt, Jolie, etc... And the ones who don't want to dont.

Gotta keep in mind these are entertainers first. They want to be the best at their craft and make lots of money doing it, not all of them want to be role models along the way. We can't expect them all to be.
lol. trust me Im not saying everybody needs to be a social activist. When Harry Belafonte criticized jay-z and beyonce I thought he was corny for that.I believe if ur successful you don't anybody anything. I'm not asking Kevin hart to be proactive and speak on  things but when hes asked about issues in interviews the answers he uses have absolutely no substance to them at all. Like I can tell somebody actually told him to say that. His answers just seem to phony.I agree tho. Nobody is obligated to be a social activist but i know he's a person and he has feelings why not be honest. If your not being disrespectful in your answer why not keep it real?

I agree a lil with what u guys are saying but
Yall don't think a person who is rich and successful because of the people who pay to see said entertainer
Who use their hard earned dollars to make this person successful
Who without these supporters wouldn't be rich and successful
Doesn't have to at least acknowledge and try to uplift or give back

Of course they should, but we live in a different day and age. But honestly I don't want to hear anything some random entertainer has to say about social ideas. I could care less, most times they shouldn't even be talking.

why shouldn't rich and famous people be called upon to be more active in the community (especially black community)?

so when they want to promote their movies, albums, songs, its okay because it affects their pockets...

they beg and go on promotion tours just to get the community to come out and spend money THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE to spare to watch or listen to their ****...

every human being should strive to get into a position where they CAN help our other people...that should be a primary motive for people who want to be rich and famous...

and seriously what does it take out of these black entertainers to actually stand up for something serious for a change? its because they whites, and the jews at the top of the food chain don't let them get politically incorrect...

that's why you have uncle toms like kevin hart who kept saying in his interview that he is always PC...foh b...

all these dudes need to address this cosby **** and black ball him forever....marlan tip toed around the same questions as well...just like kevin hart did...

marlan uncle tom *** already sell out...played white girls, played babies, and now producing a movie for someone who suck D... at least kevin hart kept it real and said he not playing no gay role... :x

anything for the $$ for most black entertainers unfortunately...and they would never speak out against the majority rule to hinder their ability to make another dollar...

sad state for the black industry...1 step forward 2 steps back.

The black entertainers don't speak out for the same reason a lot of black folks don't speak out: they don't want to lose their jobs. We as black people don't own any of the distribution companies, record labels, film studios etc that we use to present ourselves to the public. So if we feel like we might offend the hand that feeds us, well get cut off.

The solution then is to aspire on owning your own company rather than letting someone cut the checks for perpetuity. Everyone can do this, btw.

I agree with everything u said
BUT those movies he was a white woman and a baby and all that in
Him and his FAM created those characters
Not the white man putting them in those roles
I can at least say the wayans family put a lot of people on
And do that crazy stuff for laughs and money
I don't think they sell out
Specially Keenan and Damon
I know Keenan ain't on that hype
One of the reasons he left the show he created in living color

That new movie Kevin Hart is in with Will Ferrell tells me everything I need to know about him. The fact he's playing a role like that given his place in Hollywood is appalling. White guy goes to jail and has the stereotypical black street dude prep him for it. You're making this type of film in 2015? Really?

And don't give me the "he's getting paid" speech. This whole generation is infatuated with money so much that integrity doesn't mean **** anymore. Anything for a check.

yep.. Jay Z Puffy and Dr Dre could create their own major distrubuter.. but they wont.. why because if they talk about doing that.. they will get 20% raises to stop them from permanently empowering them selves..

The people who finance projects are the ones with the power. So while "the white man" didn't make them play those roles...they have more power over the final product than the creatives do.

Dave Chappelle already explained this to us. The place where art and corporate interest meet is a ************.

To be fair, Kevin Hart's role in the movie is a black business owner...he's trolling and finessing Will Ferrell's character because Will stereotyped him as some street-wise black dude, when Kevin Harts character is clean as a whistle.

I don't know how that changes anything.

They managed to pack in every negative black stereotype in a 5 minute trailer.

Hell look at the movie poster. He's cornrowing Will's hair.

Its 2015...are you serious?

To your initial comment about the role he's playing..well yes it does change things. B/c Kevin Hart is playing a hard working black business owner.

The poster is distasteful. I agree. But in regards to the actual film here, the misconception is part of the comedy.
