The most impressive thing about Ayton to me so far isn't the alley-oop, it's the short jumper
He hits that with any sort of regularity and it opens up the rest of his game so much
Bigs don't need to space the floor all the way to the 3, 10 ft is enough to be effective, even in the modern NBA

He hit two of those late in the 4th yesterday. Huge shots. Had an absolutely incredible game, which I was not expecting. He didn’t do a whole lot in the regular season games against the Clippers. Man has leveled up in these playoffs.

Agree.

Additionally, in the modern NBA, if you ain't got two-way bigs or 2 bigs who can give you both O and D, you wont advance too far into the playoffs

Gobert a perfect example. Dude a bonafide one-way big and he couldn't help his one dimensional Jazz club who do nothing but shoot threes

Agreed 100%.only issue is when other teams go small/5 out. Is your center fleet of foot enough to bother the other teams small ball 5.

And

If your center isn't capable of doing so, will you stick with the contrast of play long enough for it to pay off?

Will it pay off?

Ayton has been good enough inside to keep the Clippers honest.

Devils advocate, neither Collins or Capela are 2 way bigs

they just complement each other enough to offset it

Collins is the O, Capela brings the D and the boards. And they both playing tough in the playoffs thus far.

Collins averaging 14 pts, 7 boards, and 54% FG's and Capela averaging 10 and 12 with a steal and a little over 1 block per game in the postseason.

Like you said they complement each other well. In effect they're a two-headed "monster" for ATL and they both fit their style of play perfectly

Capela is about as one dimensional as they come

Are we considering Collins a big? He plays and acts like a tweener

Modern day Al Harrington with hops
It’s a healthy offset of skills to where you can be 1 dimensional and stay on the floor. But calling them both 2 way is a stretch

Collins is a 6’10 SG who got bullied by Tobias Harris lol

Ayton been had the face up game. That's why I was so high on him coming into the league. I knew he could do the easy stuff in the paint given his size, but he was hitting those jumpers in college and was a decent FT shooter for a big. Thought he had potential to stretch it out to the 3pt line, but like Based Jesus Based Jesus said, that may not be necessary.

him shooting 3's def became unnecessary the day cp3 arrived

Tobias was having his way with Collins. Only guy Collins was guarding was -name redacted- and he was playing FS like Maltese

Tobias was scoring on a gimpy bogdon when he wasn’t smoking layups.

JC put the clamps on two all stars this post season

collins >>> porzingis
