I don't get your logic. Tanking is the only way they have a chance to keep their pick. If it falls outside of the top 5, it goes to Atlanta.

I got that confused but even then, its too risky imo when a 3rd of the league is basically gonna be tanking for Zion

I guess I just don't understand how it's risky.

They are 5 games out of the 8 seed. No chance they are making that up.

and 7 games better than the 5th worst record. The only teams ahead of the them now in the current order that could win more games is NO, ORL, WAS. The other teams have more incentive to lose than the Mavs. I just don't see that happening

With how the odds work now, they don't have to get that high just to get a chance at the top 4. Even getting to 8 or 9 would be far more appealing than where they are now.

The Grizz are trying to convey the pick to Boston and doing a terrible job at it.

I actually want to keep the pick this year and possibly convey it next year (only top 3 protected). Moving Conley during the draft as well. If we really suck, we can keep the top 3 pick more than likely in 2020 and have it unprotected in 2021. Maybe Year 3 JJJ + other talent + current stars getting older may result in a playoff berth by 2021.

I like those 37% chance odds of having a top 4 pick this year.

The Mavs aren’t going to tank, mostly because it’s impossible to tank when you have Luka Doncic, but also because they have a Big 2 that is 19 and 23 years old that can attract stars for the next 8-10 years anyway.

They weren’t going to get that pick even before they traded for Porzingis. Doncic’s impact is the tank cure.

Seeing what happens with this Dallas pick is going to be interesting. 10th worst record right now. Tank a bit and get into that 7 spot and they'd have a 32% chance at a top 4 pick per Tankathon (not sure what the math is for top 5), and they'd get to hold onto their pick. Would be a huge comeup for them.

They'd ideally land at 7 or 8 and have about a 1-in-3 shot at keeping the pick. Convey it next year - even weaker looking draft.

They got too far out front before the KP trade to make up much more ground than that. Luka alone is too good at this point to catch too many of these teams.
