Dumb question but why didn’t Herschel go straight to the NFL after college?

I think because he could leave after his Jr year if I recall correctly. In the beginning of the USFL, I think players were able to pick the team he wanted to sign with, too. Could be wrong/have a fuzzy recollection.

There have been a couple in college. Cam Newton, Tebow, Vince Young and Michael Vick were all accurate QBs in college.
