Official 2017 Knicks Offseason thread, Phil Jackson gone

Or a complete bust. We can also get an all star in the 2nd round. You really don't know how a player will turn out until they're actually in the league. Look at IT for example. Who would've thought a 5'9 kid from Washington University would be a stud. You don't need to tank to get a star player. Word to Jimmy Butler.

^ exactly... just play out the season and hope for the best... im not going to hate on this team after a few loses because we still have a chance to bounce back and make the playoffs...one thing good about this team is the scouting... we did a decent job in drafting KP and getting steals in willie and signing kuz... they will do a decent job at drafting this year even if its a late first rounder

This is also very true. Chances in the top 10 are a tad higher though. Would love for someone to compile a legit list of the top 25 players in the NBA with their draft positions next to them

Not worried that the Knicks scouts and Phil with at the very least will draft a solid player with potential.

While they haven't landed us a bunch of all stars or superstars are drafting history has not been a failure.

Gentlemen...if you can't see the ills that plague this team, please remove the Knicks goggles and look at it objectively.

Forget all the X's and O's. Basketball is a simple game, but what I always key in on is the game within the game. Effort and Heart are things you cannot teach.

This team is softer than a muffin. What angers me the most about these losses is seeing Carmelo Anthony smile and yack it up, rubbing shoulders with the other team when we're down 15. What are you doing out there my guy? What are you telling your teammates?

This is the leader of the team. The guy who shoots all the big shots and gets all the big bucks. If he's OK with losing, as a role player, why even go out there and try ?

Yes this is an attack on Melo. I'm completely disgusted at his recent play. Don't gimme nothing about his statistics cause at the end of the day all he can give us is L's. Son's defense is the worse, laziest I've ever seen it. His shot selection has never changed. The only change is that it's not as effective anymore thus making him worse. That play where Jrue Holiday was ahead of the pack and Melo just jogged it up without even trying to contest epitomizes everything wrong with him.

If you're a 6'7" SF in this league, are you even worried about Carmelo Anthony? Swear to god , all you gotta do is start talking to him and the game is yours. If you hit a jumpshot in his face, youre as good as gold. Guaranteed the rest of the game is all about him trying to get back at you. For someone who's apparently so accomplished, he's got a god awful knack of trying to prove people wrong. I've never let myself blame so much on Melo but I'm sick of it man. He's playing like a Brooklyn Nets version of Joe Johnson but with a bigger ego. Horrible. Son you THOUGHT you was a top 15 player :lol All he has now is a reputation. Straight up, strip the name away - and if you watch homie play ball, he's the old man who thinks hes nice. Youre so good but you can't even dominate mediocre teams. Youre constantly beat off the dribble, your J is broke except once out of every 5 games, you're sure to get your **** punched at least once a game so you don't even go down in the block anymore. And noone has the balls to tell him otherwise because he's the "alpha" on this team. 2012 was so awesome because we had vets who definately told him his place .

The rotations have gone to ****. Noah and Lance are getting too much PT and you can tell that's destroyed the bench's confidence and contribution. For someone as player friendly as Hornacek, I thought hed have a better feel for that situation.

I got flashes of last year when I saw Sasha and Lance out there. Jesus Christ what a joke of a lineup that is.

The guys who get paid the big bucks are all selfish, lack bball IQ, and dont tell me that kind of thing is not infectious. NOBODY likes throwing the ball to one guy and run to the corners to watch as he backs down and bricks a shot time and time and time and time again. Then youre expected to crash for the rebound and run back on defense, just to see no effort from the guy that just took the shot. Rinse and repeat with Rose/KP.

Isolation baskeball is disgusting. It's hard to watch, and its unnecessary. It's disheartening, it's team breaking, it's trust destroying.

Whatever good vibes we had going on are destroyed. Whatever continuity was developed has been ground to dust. It started with that Phoenix game and you all already know who was the culprit for that one with his personal battle against PJ Tucker. We're back to square one and we have to build up again.

This is the same story with him since he's been here. I was extremely optimistic coming into this season, thinking perhaps that he realizes he has teammates that can help shoulder the burden, but nah... He's doing the same things he's always done with significantly worse efficiency.

All this talk about him being a leader is untrue. He was the leader in Rio by default. They had like 10 new olympians. Obviously youre the guy they look to.

Son is a fraud and we will NEVER win a championship with him here. He doesnt have championship level effort, drive or dedication and most importantly SACRIFICE.

We are watching a man content with playing out the rest of his career as is. He will try to get his, if we win we win, if we lose it's cool , he'll just deal with the media whatever way he wants. That no trade clause holds it all for him.

All the Melo stans come at me. Try and defend this guys desire to win a championship. You CANNOT show me he does things to inspire his team to victory.

I had to pop in just to rep this. I said after the Olympics that Melo should have retired right then, cause based on that interview, it sounded like he knew what was coming up in the NBA season (though I don't remember if the Rose/Noah moves were made yet, so somebody can correct me if I'm wrong there). But after showing out (again) in this past year's Olympics, he sounded like a guy that accomplished everything he set out to do, and made his Olympic medal his NBA championship, and that the start of the NBA season would simply be that --- just another NBA season. Melo right now is a guy who has watched a lot of his peers go on to become more successful than him, whether winning NBA championships or just being talked about in high regard, along with guys younger than him passing him by. Saw somebody mention he has a no-trade clause...well, he needs to waive that clause and get traded somewhere where he can be the 5th or 6th best player on a winning team. Melo was one of my favorite players at a time where I just enjoyed seeing points scored and nothing else. But as of 2017, for every flash of a 3 being hit or a drop step and step-back jumper made, he's overall sad to watch now compared to other guys around the same age.

If Melo is your 5th or 6th option you'll probably never lose a game. Any contender he gets traded to he'd automatically be the 2nd or 3rd best player on that team.

I'm just over him in general. He's never gonna change as a player. His 20 points on 44% FG with awful defense is laughable considering the amount of shots he takes. The minute this man wasn't able to score 25+ ppg consistently anymore he became useless and all his other deficiencies became even more exposed. **** is sad cause we're stuck with him unfortunately and we're not gonna be able to get to a point where he's a third option and as a team a serious contender. Our only hope is if CP3 comes and KP takes another leap

Its a toxic situation. Best thing to do is to seriously consider trading him, would be better for both parties.

On no negative ****, but I'm glad KP and Melo and Lee been sitting. It forces us to play Willy, Kuz and put BJ with Rose and give us different looks. Which in the end can help us with an identity.

Identity goes out the window for the most part when Carmelo is on the floor. Remember we were supposed to be a pace and space team ? Son dubbed all that ****.

Horny doesn't even yell "run, move the ball" anymore. He just deals with it

Melo just can't get it through his head that he ain't the same guy anymore

He should be the 2nd or 3rd option on the team at this point because he shouldn't be working as hard as he does for his numbers (inefficiently at that)

KP and Rose score so much easier than he does and because they're getting easy buckets at times he doesn't wanna do **** on defense now because he wants to save all his energy to bang for buckets on the other end

**** is sickening this year man

I want Melo to play less minutes for the soul fact of improving the defense. I know the Knicks let the Rockets drop 30 in the last quarter but tbh I liked what I saw on defense. The Rockets dropping 30 had a lot to do with Harden hitting 3s in people's faces and getting the ref to call a foul on two of 3 point attempts.

Defense is also a coaching problem, though. All the blame can't go on Melo. Imo with Courtney Lee out, Justin Holiday should've been on the court every time Harden was on the court. Guys like Lance Thomas or Derrick has no business guarding Harden lol

Eye test, that last quarter, without Melo in there, defensive rotations was a lot faster.

gridebounca11 gridebounca11 props. been feeling/saying this for what feels like forever.

Defense and defensive schemes are comprised of 5 guys on a string. If one guy isn't doing his job, or is always looking to take the easy way out (ie. switch, not box out), it's going to throw EVERYTHING off.

Phil stupidly giving Melo that five year extension was worse than him trading for Baringani (sp). The trade set the team back by one draft pick, the resigning set us back 5 years minimum.

Also, what "brand" is Melo building? He will be forgotten as soon as he retires. Outside of this thread, he is an afterthought at this point in his career.
