If Clemson got the field goal instead of going for it then they wouldn't even be in this position. You always go for the points.
It was going to be a 54 yarder
even if they didn't get it they would've given up the same field position to pitt. 

going for it was high risk high reward. 

but I would've much rather have Pitt go for a game winning TD than field goal.

They needed 1 yard and if they got it, it would've iced the game. I don't blame them for going for it, at least the least, I think it's better than going for a 54yd FG with a college kicker

Clemson was on that Auburn 2013 magic dust for the majority of this season, finally bit them in the ***.

Thank god this dude is not at MSU anymore.

It's not over for Clemson yet though as long as they win out. 
 
You either go for it or you punt. You can't attempt the long FG there and if you punt, it's probably gonna be a touchback. This is where a pooch punt would have been good...most underrated play in football. Every team needs to practice it (especially if you're a QB)
