Official 2013 NFL Washington Diplomats SEASON Thread - Last Game 12/29 @ 1:00 PM vs. Giants

Ensuring RG III is healthy and the face of the franchise for years to come is more important than a postseason appearance this year.
I thought this team would win 6-8 games this year and while they have won some games that were impressive, they lost some to inferior opponents.
A lot of highs and lows, but the fact that they are playing relevant football in December.....that is impressive and not taken lightly.
I can definitely see the Giants and Cowboys losing a couple of games down the stretch.

If he's medically cleared to play, he needs to be out there.

I'm not following why RGIII's career/future would be threatened by playing on Sunday. No matter what happens this week or in the next three, there isn't anything other than a leg amputation that's going to keep him from being our QB going forward. On top of it all, he was right back out there the following week after getting a concussion vs. the Falcons. Where was the talk of shutting him down for the season after that happened? Again...if he's MEDICALLY cleared, he should be out there playing.

*Also...as a dude pointed out, Trent Williams, D.Hall, Fletch, and Garcon are gutting things out right now and dealing with their own injuries.

So if RG III blows out his ACL again and the Skins beat the Browns are you happy? I would rather have a mobile RG III play without a swollen knee in two weeks against the Eagles and then against the Cowboys.

Being medically cleared doesn't mean teams won't be gunning for that knee trying to knock him out for the season.

Cousins is no Rex Grossman, I'm fine with him starting on Sunday if it means Robert doesn't jeopardize his career.

:lol @ him blowing out his ACL. That can happen ANY week. So, this is the approach we're going to take with him from here on out? Treat him like a china doll? He's a football player...and if he's medically cleared to play, he needs to be on the field. Where's the concern about London Fletcher blowing out his hamstring...or Pierre Garcon doing further damage to his foot? Guys play hurt all the time. ****, our LEADERS (Trent, Garcon, and Fletch) are gutting it out there every week and are nowhere close to 100%. At this time of the season, you'd be hard pressed to find many players who are 100% healthy.

On top of it all, after RG3 got his concussion vs. the Falcons, how much of a risk was there for him to do further damage to his brain the following week? Do you think the opposition took it any easier on him knowing what happened to him the week before? Remember, he was medically cleared. That's what it all comes down to.

I'm 100% against sitting a player for no reason....if he's not healthy enough to play, sit him. We're in the thick of things and if he can play, he should.

You have to understand, right now DoubleJ's just isn't thinking clearly.  All he's worried about is RGIII playing so he can hold on to his chances of being Rookie of the Year, and added onto that DoubleJ's will be happy just to have the Skins make it to the playoffs.  Now he knows the Skins probably won't go anywhere in the playoffs but to him just making it to the playoffs is an accomplishment in itself, never mind the result of the game, just making it to the playoffs is satisfactory enough.  Now you, I and others want RGIII to recover fully so that he can continue being the face and more importantly the future of the franchise.  You and I are thinking long-term, while our good friend DoubleJ's is thinking short-term.  That okay, that's our brotha nonetheless

Honest question. Does anyone other than you think that you make sense? I swear u wake up drink a 5th of Jim Bean and start your day.

Why are people so stuck on this rookie of the year thing? I don't give a damn if he gets it or not. All I know is that we have a QB that has heart and the team rallies behind him.

If there is any doubt that he is not 100% then I would start cousins and see how that goes.

I'll put it as simply as I can...and this is the whole gist of my argument: I ONLY want him on the field if he's medically cleared to play.

Start Cousins...The knee sprain is a Grade 1..meaning it was a little bit of fiber tears here and there...he is medically cleared to play but full recovery is about 4 weeks why risk the chance of RG3 getting even more hurt, let him rest this week and so on and then be ready for theplayoffs if we make it ....I have faith in this team, the Defense is playing better, Morris is running....Cleaveland is no walk in the park tho, but overall I think skins are a better team even with cousins at the throne.

If RGIII can do all the things he was doing before the injury then we should start him. If not, we should start Cousins, who hasn't really been seen by the NFL so we could possibly squeak out a win or two with him as long as we have a balanced attack and the run game is still grinding. Hopefully he's healthy enough to play, if not at at least 85% he shouldn't play.

*Fellas...I think we'll use this thread like the Knicks fans do w/ theirs. Rather than starting up something new for the offseason, draft, and new season...we'll keep updating this one.

Despite RGIII injury, 'Skins' special season stays on its playoff track

LANDOVER, Md. -- The Washington ******** became relevant again that moment in early March when they swung the blockbuster trade for the St. Louis Rams' No. 2 draft pick, making the Heisman-winning Robert Griffin III a dream come true in burgundy.

But such a bold move was made with days like Sunday in mind. For games like this one. For comebacks that enter into ******** lore.

The story just got better in Washington this football season. Much, much better. And when the ******** make the playoffs this January -- and it says here they will -- this will be the game they look back on. This will be the win that convinced everyone bigger things were on the way this season.

"I really wasn't waiting for this kind of game, I was waiting for this kind of season,'' said veteran ******** receiver Santana Moss, after Washington stormed back from an eight-point deficit in the final minutes of regulation, overcoming a scary knee injury to Griffin to defeat the powerful Baltimore Ravens 31-28 in overtime It was Washington's fourth win in a row and pushed it over .500 for the first time since Week 1.

John Harbaugh: FedEx Field crowd ruined fake punt play

Posted by Dan Steinberg on December 11, 2012 at 10:32 am

Watching Sunday’s game live, I mistakenly thought the Ravens were just messing around when they lined up in that weird fake-punt formation. I figured they were hoping to draw the ******** offsides.

Turns out I was wrong. They actually wanted to go for that 4th-and-short. And the play was foiled by, get this, the loud FedEx Field crowd. Haven’t typed those words a lot in my career.

“We just had a situation out there where the guys couldn’t hear Anthony [Allen] make the hut call,” Coach John Harbaugh told reporters on Monday. “You know, it got real loud at that point in time. And we executed it really well; we made a substitution and we were running a certain play in there that we thought had a chance. And it would’ve probably had a REAL good chance. But the offensive line couldn’t hear the snap count. And that’s something that was disappointing.”

take it w/ a grain of salt, but a skins insider deleted a tweet that said RGIII felt great and if he's able to breathe, he's playing on Sunday.

FWIW, this dude is on point w/ what he puts out on twitter.

also:

3:00PM EST December 11. 2012 - Breathe easy ******** nation, Robert Griffin III's father told USA TODAY Sports on Tuesday that his son will start Sunday against the Cleveland Browns in a critical game for the Washington ********' playoff push.

Crowd is still not not at the level I'd like, but it's getting better. It killed me to see what looked on TV to be a LOT of purple in the stands on Sunday.

They also need to run a massive PSA campaign telling people to shut the hell up when we're on offense. I can't STAND when it's a crucial drive and people are chanting RG3 or screaming in general when we're at the line about to run a play. :{ Idiots.

I will be at Sunday's game watching RGIII live :smokin really hope he is playing.

This game means a lot for both teams. The Browns are trying to stay consistent to prove Jimmy Haslam his current GM can put consistent talent on the field, not to mention we're mathematically still able to make the playoffs (:lol) .

Meanwhile the ******** are closing in on a playoff spot.

Should be a good game.

Yeah when the schedule first came out, the Browns looked like it would be one of the few "easy" wins for the Skins......now with the playoffs on the line and injuries, this game is pretty critical for both teams.

Cleveland has looked solid these last few weeks, I wouldn't underestimate the Browns at all.....but the Skins must slow down the run and get pressure on the QB.

The Ravens torched the Skins in the first half because Flacco had time to do his taxes in the pocket. The second half saw more QB pressure and more stops/turnovers.

I have a bad feeling about this game...:{

I was listening to the Junkies this morning on the way to work, and it seems like everyone is just throwing predictions out there to get Cleveland to gameplan for both QBs.

Pierre Garcon was on ESPN the whole day yesterday and hinted at Cousins starting..RGIII's father said he was progressing well and there no doubt he would be ready by Sunday.

and then we all know how Shanahan talks to media.

Junkies had some dude on a stakeout at ******** park :lol No joke. They wanted to see how RGIII was walking when he got there. The only report was that he had a slight limp (drove himself - Nissan Armada, if you're curious) and said he was doing fine when the dude yelled to see how he was doing.

No one knows what's going on with who is going to start on Sunday. Shanahan might like it that way. A bit of gamesmanship - Bill Belichick does this as well. Keeps things close to the vest. We'll see what happens.

More press on Alf...nothing that we don't know, but I'm glad this kid is getting his shine. Arguably the best rookie RB outta the draft class and SHOULD get a PB invite. Not bad for an unheralded 6th rounder.

Outside the Game: Alfred Morris goes from humble beginnings to the top of the NFL

Few expected him to walk away with the franchise records for carries and rushing yards by a rookie, but Washington ******** rookie running back Alfred Morris always believed he could make it in the NFL. He's proven the doubters right with an amazing season in which he's already toted the rock 253 times for 1,228 yards and seven touchdowns. In conjunction with fellow rookie Robert Griffin III, Morris is a key cog in one of the NFL's most exciting and diverse offenses -- an offense that has the 7-6 ******** looking for their first playoff berth since 2007.

Robert Griffin III is on the field for practice. Did leg lifts, stretches and shuffle steps. #******** #*******sTalk

I don't know to what extent @RGIII will participate in team drills (can't watch that) but I'm shocked by how much he's able to do.#********

Should be noted that there was no brace on the outside of his sweat pants. #*******sTalk #********

C'mon RGIII #2 overall pick in a Nissan Armada?! :lol that doesn't matter though. As long as our defense steps up and shuts down their offense we will win the game. I'm taking the Skins 17-13.

Just read the same stuff on rotoworld

Griffin stretched, did some light jogging and tossed the ball. He was reportedly "moving reasonably well" and only had a slight limp. The rest of ******** practice was closed to the media.

Give @granthpaulsen a follow. He delivers a lot of good info and provides up to date info.

I think his humble outlook on his talents, abilities, impact and life in general is why he is so likeable. He is the perfect hardworking determined winner that can change a franchise around without even speaking a word.

His actions/persona are a great foundation for a franchise.

Does RG III have a post game or a jumpshot?

Robert Griffin is on practice field again today. He was moving well and didn't seem to be hindered during jogging or pass-drops. #********

I can only imagine the round the clock treatment Robert is getting.

Us common folk with knee injuries are curious.....8o.

Sounds promising hope the best for him and the Skins.
