just found out Glen Tapia vs Kirland is under the Rigondeaux card. . I know, I know I'm late.
I like Tapia, but is too early for such a test?
Filipino-Americans don't know a great deal of boxing outside Manny. Boxing is the #2 sport behind basketball in the Philippines. I can't say for sure that he is now but I know Bobby was more popular than Nonito a few years ago because Rachel Donaire came off as an attention *****. Nonito's popularity has been on the uptick over the last couple of years, not because Filipinos actually like him but because he has Filipino blood in him. That seems to be a thing with the country and trying to link themselves to flavor of the month athletes. When the Giants won the World Series in 2010 news outlets in the Philippines raved about Tim Lincecum being part Filipino even though I've never heard Lincecum brag about being oneI thought y'all knew that already, Filipino fans (for the most part) don't really care about boxing or know much about boxing outside of Manny. People were calling it during his heyday that as soon as he lost or got KO'ed, the fans would disperse and not care anymore. Part of the reason why you see most of them only pop up and **** talk when Manny wins. It's the same fan base that rooted more for Bobby Pacquiao than Nonito when he was on top
I'm sure Dako could give us better perspective of that though.
